Legal Counsel

Doha, Qatar

Job Purpose

Reporting to Head of Legal & Compliance, the Legal Counsel is responsible for the effective and efficient management of all legal aspects of Artan Holding and its subsidiaries. Providing expert legal advice to the business on a wide range of legal and commercial matters while ensuring legal compliance and reducing contractual risks. Working on a sole counsel basis, the incumbent will take responsibility for negotiating, drafting and reviewing all contracts and agreements.

Key Relationships

· Internal: Executive Management, SBU heads, HoDs

· External: Ministries, Local authorities, Government bodies

Authorities

· To review/ call for Company documents pertaining to Artan’s businesses to ensure that the legal and compliance aspects are adhered to.

Accountabilities

· Work towards executing/ implementing strategies to ensure corporate governance, legal and compliance

· Support the development and execution of plans and policies

· Prepare data points, case material etc. and front-end critical negotiations.

· Prepare and ensure that contracts are inherently risk-free.

Duties and Responsibilities

· Provides all support and guidance for all entities of Artan Holding on matters pertaining to legal and compliance.

· Prepare contracts, agreements, draft emails, notes, responses etc. in compliance with legal and statutory regulations.

· Verify and ensure the authenticity of client/ vendor documents etc. and advise internal departments & SBUs

· Prepare internal policies and procedures and formulate the legal framework.

· Research and evaluate different risk factors regarding business decisions and business unit operations and suggest the future course of action.

· Review and provide legal advice regarding company documents

· Provide legal protection and risk management advice to the management team particularly but not limited to contract management

· Prepare, review and edit contractual documents to support all business units and their business activities

· Review all contracts / documentation currently in place, assessing legal implications that need to be brought to the attention of the management team.

· Negotiate, review and draft documentation for business transactions. Prepare a checklist to ensure that information is submitted on time

· Keep updated on latest changes to legal legislation

· Ability to translate all contracts / documentation from English to Arabic and vice versa in legal parlance using appropriate terminologies

· Any other tasks, duties & responsibilities that may be added from time to time as relevant to business requirements

Skills

· Excellent communication skills, verbal and written in English and Arabic

· Demonstrated knowledge of, and experience with, laws dealing with commercial contract administration particularly contract negotiation, preparation and administration

· Ability to provide sound legal advice to management on technical matters

· Strong planning and organization skills

· High degree of professional ethics and integrity

· Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines

· Strong attention to detail

Language:

- English

- Arabic

Specialized Training/ Knowledge Required

· Excellent knowledge and understanding of corporate law and procedures

· Proven track record of adding value to an organization through the development of comprehensive contract documents that mitigate risk and penalties

Education & Qualifications

· Bachelor’s Degree in Law with specialization in corporate or commercial law is essential

· Master’s Degree in Law or Business will be an added advantage

Experience

· 5+ years proven experience as legal counsel ideally with exposure to multiple businesses

· Minimum 3 years experience ideally in a leading organization with a proven track record in contract negotiation and drafting

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: QAR15,000.00 - QAR20,000.00 per month

  • Contract drafting and negotiation: 5 years (Required)
