Job Title: Legal Secretary/Receptionist (Full-Time, Non-Exempt)

Summary
Answer and screen all incoming calls to the State's Attorney's Office and perform responsible secretarial duties.
Duties and Responsibilities
Include but not limited to as other duties may be assigned.

Greet and screen visitors who walk into the office and provide general information to the public.

Handle confidential matters daily and relating to all divisions of the State's Attorney's Office.
- Screen incoming calls and determine whether the callers need to speak to an attorney and which specific attorney they should be referred to for assistance. Take telephone messages for the staff and forward calls to calls to staff members or to voicemail system if requested by staff and/or caller.
- Refer callers to other County offices or agencies when necessary.
- Maintain office files and records.
- Distribute mail and other official documents to staff in the office.

Prepare reports and enter records into online computer systems.
Qualifications

High school diploma or general education degree (GED) with further secretarial education training in word processing and personal computers and one year of secretarial experience with public contact, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Knowledge of modern office practices, operation of the criminal justice system and of the procedures, policies, and regulations of the State's Attorney's Office.
- Skilled in operation a personal computer, word processing equipment, and in verbal communication.
Compensation
-
Wage Range: $19.48 - $27.51 per hour depending on qualification and experience.
- This is a full-time union position under the Agreement set by the American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) Union Contract.
