JOB DESCRIPTION

LIBRARY MEDIA CENTER ASSISTANT

Needs to work well with students and staff

A command of basic library skills

A knowledge of computers and software

To perform those tasks associated with the general operation of the library media center, especially in the area of clerical duties, material processing, shelving, and circulation duties.

A. Operations & Organization

Process ordering, receiving, and cataloging of materials (physical and digital)
Maintain inventory of materials, devices, and equipment
Manage circulation of materials, including digital resources and interlibrary loans
Maintain organized shelving and storage systems
Support the day-to-day operation of the library/media center as a shared learning space

B. Technology & Digital Support

Support the use of digital research tools, databases, and online resources
Help students navigate responsible use of technology, including digital citizenship basics
Support emerging tools (e.g., AI platforms, research tools, multimedia tools) as directed

C. Student & Staff Support

Maintain a welcoming and inclusive environment for all learners
Supervise students in a structured and productive environment
Assist students and staff in locating and accessing both digital and physical resources
Provide basic guidance on research strategies using online tools and databases
Support classroom activities, projects, and independent student work in the library space

D. Communication & Data Management

Maintain and update patron databases and circulation systems
Communicate effectively with staff regarding resource availability and needs
Support data collection related to library/media usage
Support implementation of school-wide procedures related to materials and technology
