Library Media Specialist

Job Title: Library Media Specialist

Work Location: Bayless Elementary School

Length of Position: Based on school calendar

Reports to: Building Principal


Position Overview

The Elementary Library Media Specialist plans and establishes the library media program, goals, and outcomes in accordance with building curriculum and district and state guidelines.


Qualifications

Must hold proper Missouri state certification


Essential Job Functions:

  • Foster an inclusive and engaging library media environment that encourages student and staff use.
  • Maintain accurate records and reports, including expenditures, requisitions, and circulation data.
  • Inform and support staff in accessing and utilizing instructional and professional resources.
  • Collaborate with teachers to integrate information literacy and research skills into the curriculum.
  • Provide instruction in information literacy, including evaluating, analyzing, and synthesizing information across multiple formats.
  • Support staff and students in the use and creation of instructional and multimedia materials.
  • Participate in instructional planning by co-designing, implementing, and evaluating resource-based learning experiences.
  • Promote and model ethical use of information, including policies related to access, confidentiality, copyright, and intellectual property.
  • Support the integration of emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), into teaching and learning in safe, ethical, and effective ways.
  • Provide guidance to students and staff on responsible AI use, including digital literacy, bias awareness, and academic integrity.
  • Oversee the selection, organization, cataloging, and maintenance of library media resources in accordance with district guidelines.
  • Supervise and support library media staff, student assistants, and volunteers.
  • Develop and implement short- and long-range program goals, collaborate with district initiatives, and participate in relevant committees and professional activities.
  • Other duties as assigned.
