JOB DESCRIPTION – LIFTING ENGINEER
Position Title: Lifting Engineer
Reports To: Project Manager / HSE Manager / Operations Manager
Position Overview
The Lifting Engineer is responsible for planning, supervising, and ensuring the safe execution of all lifting operations on site. This role ensures compliance with local regulations, international standards, and client requirements while providing technical support for crane operations, lifting gear inspections, and lifting plan development.
Key Responsibilities Lifting Operations & Planning
- Prepare, review, and approve lifting plans, method statements, and risk assessments.
- Conduct load calculations, crane selection, and lifting configurations based on site conditions.
- Ensure lifting activities are executed in accordance with international best practices (BS, LOLER, ASME, etc.).
- Provide technical guidance on crane operation, rigging methods, and equipment positioning.
Safety & Compliance
- Ensure all lifting equipment, cranes, and rigging gear are certified, inspected, and fit for use.
- Oversee daily lifting activities to ensure strict adherence to safety procedures.
- Identify hazards and implement proper control measures to mitigate risks.
- Coordinate with the HSE Department to ensure lifting compliance with client and regulatory requirements.
Technical Support & Coordination
- Work closely with Site Engineers, Supervisors, Operators, and Riggers to ensure safe execution of lifting tasks.
- Liaise with client representatives for approval of lifting plans and inspections.
- Evaluate lifting equipment failures or incidents and prepare investigation reports when required.
- Maintain all lifting equipment documentation, certificates, and records.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
- Certified/Competent Lifting Engineer or Lifting Supervisor (LE/LO)—preferred.
- Minimum 3–7 years of experience in lifting operations within construction, oil & gas, industrial, or infrastructure sectors.
- Strong knowledge of cranes, rigging gear, lifting accessories, and load-handling equipment.
- Ability to prepare or review technical lifting plans and calculations.
- Excellent understanding of LOLER, ISO, ASME, BS and other relevant standards.
- Strong communication, coordination, and leadership skills.
- Safety-oriented mindset with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
