Linux Administrator
Job Summary
The Linux Administrator is responsible for
supporting, maintaining Linux-based systems. The role handles day-to-day
operations, complex troubleshooting, automation, and system improvements while
ensuring security, performance, and availability.
Key Responsibilities
System Administration & Operations
- Install,
configure, and maintain Linux servers (RHEL, CentOS, Ubuntu, Suse, Oracle
VM). - Perform
user and group management, permissions, and Sudo access. - Monitor
system health, logs, disk usage, and performance. - Apply
OS patching, updates, and kernel upgrades. - Manage
system services (systemd, cron, rsyslog). - Handle
incidents, service requests, and problem tickets.
Troubleshooting skills
- Perform
advanced troubleshooting and root cause analysis. - Resolve
complex OS, performance, and application-related issues. - Tune
system performance (CPU, memory, I/O). - Lead
incident resolution and support major outages.
Security & Compliance
- Implement
OS hardening and security best practices. - Manage
SELinux, firewalld, iptables, and SSH security. - Support
vulnerability remediation and security audits. - Ensure
compliance with enterprise security standards.
Storage, Backup & DR
- Manage
file systems (LVM, ext4, xfs). - Configure
and support NFS, Samba, and iSCSI.
Networking
- Configure
network interfaces, bonding, VLANs, and routing. - Troubleshoot
DNS, NTP, firewall, and connectivity issues. - Support
load balancers and reverse proxies (Nginx, HAProxy).
Automation & Tools
- Develop
and maintain Bash scripts for automation. - Implement
and maintain Ansible playbooks. - Improve
operational efficiency through automation. - Use
monitoring tools (Prometheus, Grafana, SolarWinds ).
Virtualization & Cloud
- Support
Linux systems on VMware, Hyper-V or any virtualisation platform.
Documentation & Collaboration
- Maintain
system documentation, SOPs, and build guides.
Required Skills & Qualifications
Technical Skills
- 4–5
years of hands-on Linux administration experience. - Strong
experience with RHEL-based Linux systems. - Good
scripting and automation skills. - Solid
understanding of networking and security concepts. - Experience
in enterprise or data center environments.
Preferred Certifications
- RHCSA
/ RHCE - LFCS
/ LFCE - ITIL
