Purpose
The Locum Dentist is responsible for the detection, diagnosis, and treatment of patients in a clinical setting. They also document the treatment, communicate with patients, and refer to partners as appropriate. The roles also entail participation in the leadership of the clinic and providing guidance and providing oversight to the dental support team.

Compensation:
- The target wage range for this position is $86.61 per hour to $107.49 per hour
- Final offers are individually based on various factors, including skill set, years of experience, location, qualifications, work schedule and other job-related reasons.
Primary Responsibilities:
Direct Patient Care
- Detect and diagnose oral disease including dental caries, periodontal disease, and oral pathology
- Make reasonable and sound dental assessments and treatment plans and communicate to the patient
- Provides high quality dental care to patients, confident in performing all aspects of general dentistry including restorative work, surgical extractions, basic endodontics, scaling and root planing, pediatrics, and removable prosthodontics
- Assures integration of patient education into all treatment phases and partners with patients to achieve optimal oral health that meets the needs of the patient
- Assists with or institutes emergency measures for sudden adverse developments during treatment of patients
- Obtains history and physical appropriate to dental needs/care
Indirect Patient Care
- Reviews patient records, charts and other pertinent information prior to providing care
- Consults with appropriate providers and make recommendations to patients for outside referrals as needed
- Document all patient visits, communication, referrals, and prescriptions in an accurate and timely manner, in compliance with NeighborCare Health guidelines
- Perform other duties as assigned
Administrative Work
- Assists the Director of Dental Services, Clinic Manager (Clinic Administrator or Associate Clinic Administrator) and Site Dental Director in the planning and evaluation of effective clinic operations
- Participates as a team member with all clinical staff to embody the principles of NeighborCare Health’s Service Commitments
- Leads a team of support staff to assure services meet or exceed the expectations of patients, coworkers, the public, and community standards
- Attend and contribute at staff meetings, provider meetings, and other in-service trainings
- Keep abreast of new developments in dentistry through structured continuing professional developments. Updates delivery of care based on evidence-based practices
- May participate in preceptorship of dental residents, dental assisting students, and/or as a clinical shadowing mentor
Required Skills:
- Ability to work in a high pressure, time-sensitive, and complex health care environment.
- Ability to meet and comply with HIPAA/Confidentiality policies and procedures and to handle confidential and sensitive patient and staff information
- Ability to work with individuals of varying ethnicities, socio-economic levels, cultures sexual orientations, and gender identities
- Demonstrates the ability to conduct discussions of a sensitive nature with staff and patients
- Ability to build relationships while maintaining appropriate boundaries
- Ability to develop collaborative working relationships that foster a positive working environment with an emphasis on teamwork
Preferred Skills:
- Ability to work with computers, the use of email, and electronic medical records
- Ability to communicate in person, email, and on the phone effectively
- Community health experience
Education/Experience Requirements:
- Dental Degree required (DDS or DMD), from an American Dental Association accredited dental school
- Current Washington State Dentist License
- One (1) year of residency training or clinical practice
- BLS Certification
Preferred Requirements:
- Completed a one (1) year clinical residency program
- One (1) or more years of practicing in a community health setting
- DEA License
