- Monitor stock levels, maintain inventory records, forecast demand.
- Ensure just-in-time delivery, avoid overstock or stockouts.
- Plan, schedule, and oversee inbound and outbound shipments.
- Select carriers / freight forwarders, negotiate rates, monitor performance.
- Handle purchase orders (POs), coordinate goods pickup and delivery.
- Liaise with warehouse, drivers / third-party logistics (3PL) providers; monitor delivery status.
- Prepare shipping documents, customs paperwork, certificates (origin, export / import).
- Ensure compliance with relevant laws, safety, quality standards.
- Identify cost-saving opportunities (transport, warehousing, packaging).
- Monitor budgets, control logistics operational expenses.
- Track key metrics (delivery time, cost per shipment, stock accuracy, etc.).
- Generate reports for management: weekly / monthly delivery reports, cost analyses.
- Negotiate and maintain relationships with suppliers, carriers,
- Coordinate with production / planning / sales / warehouse teams to align schedules and delivery.
- Evaluate logistics processes; propose & implement improvements.
- Manage warehouse layout, space utilization, loading/unloading optimisation.
- Sometimes supervise or coordinate the activities of junior staff or external vendors.
- Provide training / guidance when needed.
- Deal with delays, damages, complaints; coordinate corrective actions.
- Communicate with customers regarding status, delivery, etc.
