Job Overview: The Maitre D' is responsible for overseeing the smooth operation of the front door and ensuring that the guest experience begins with efficiency, warmth, and professionalism. This role involves managing guest flow, optimizing table turns, and using reservation and seating systems (Resy and Blackbird) to ensure maximum operational efficiency. The Maitre D' will work closely with restaurant management, hosts, servers, and the kitchen to maintain a positive and seamless experience for both guests and staff. The Maitre D’ answers to the Assistant General Manager, General Manager, and Head Chef. The Maitre D’ oversees all staff in the Front of House.
Key Responsibilities:
Front Door Management:
- Efficiently manage the flow of guests entering the restaurant, ensuring timely seating while maintaining an exceptional guest experience.
- Oversee the host stand, making sure that guests are greeted warmly, seated promptly, and their needs are communicated effectively to the team.
Maximizing Restaurant Efficiency:
- Utilize reservation and seating systems (Resy and Blackbird) to optimize table assignments, control waitlists, and maximize seating efficiency, reducing wait times without compromising service quality.
- Communicate with other managers and kitchen staff to ensure proper pacing of reservations, walk-ins, and special events.
- Continuously assess restaurant flow and adjust as needed to maintain optimal guest satisfaction and operational success.
System Proficiency:
- Become fully proficient in using Resy, Blackbird, and other restaurant management tools, ensuring smooth operation and proactive problem-solving.
- Use system data to monitor and adjust seating patterns, maximizing guest flow, and improving overall restaurant efficiency.
Training and Development:
- Train and mentor all new hosts, providing them with the knowledge and skills necessary to excel in their roles.
- Maintain a positive and collaborative atmosphere, ensuring all front-of-house staff understand and align with the restaurant's service standards.
Effective Communication:
- Relay important information regarding VIP guests, special occasions, and seating preferences to ensure personalized service.
- Be in constant communication with the managers on duty and point chef in the kitchen to ensure a smooth flow of service.
Guest Experience:
- Ensure a positive and memorable guest experience from the moment they arrive, addressing any concerns or feedback promptly and professionally.
- Monitor guest satisfaction throughout their time at the restaurant and proactively resolve any issues to maintain high levels of guest retention and satisfaction.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Assist with managing reservations and walk-ins, especially during peak times, to reduce wait times and enhance guest experience.
- Provide guidance to the front-of-house team in addressing guest needs, upholding the highest service standards.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the front-of-house area.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in a high-volume, upscale restaurant or hospitality environment.
- Strong working knowledge of Resy or similar reservation management systems.
- Exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact professionally with guests, staff, and management.
- Ability to train and develop staff to meet high standards of service and efficiency.
- A passion for hospitality and providing outstanding guest experiences.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to stay calm under pressure.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand for long periods.
- Occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds.
