Manager Asset Management

Position: Manager - Asset Management

Directorate: Economic Diversification Investments

JOB PURPOSE:

To lead and manage asset management responsibilities across a selected portfolio of investments under the National Development Fund. Reporting to the Director of Asset Management, the role is accountable for supporting the delivery of financial, operational, and strategic performance across assigned assets. The Senior/Manager plays a key role in driving performance monitoring, engaging with portfolio companies, supporting governance processes, and coordinating interventions and value creation initiatives. The role also contributes to turnaround planning, project execution oversight, and divestment readiness.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Lead the implementation of the AM mandate across assigned assets, focusing on performance, governance, and capital efficiency.

• Apply asset management tools, frameworks, and best practices to monitor and improve portfolio outcomes.

• Manage shareholder matters and support execution of governance responsibilities.

• Coordinate with internal teams to identify process improvements and contribute to AM capability-building.

• Provide active support to boards.

• Lead the review and approval of OIA Companies business plans, budgets, KPIs, capital requirements, and strategic initiatives.

• Ensure budget efficiency and optimization, with reference to benchmarks.

• Ensure KPI setting is ambitious, long-term oriented, and encourages high performance.

• Design and oversee a robust performance management framework, including financial and operational KPI tracking, risk management, and scorecards.

• Lead periodic reviews of portfolio company performance, based on the OIA required frequency.

• Proactively identify underperformance and implement structured escalation and intervention protocols.

• Ensure rigorous oversight of asset performance, capital spending discipline, and early identification of distressed situations.

• Ensure early warning systems and dashboards are in place to flag deviations and corrective actions.

• Ensure data integrity and timely input to Investment MIS and related teams for tracking, benchmarking, and reporting.

• Drive implementation of value creation plans and ensure sector and company-level targets are in place, monitored, and adapted based on performance insights and market dynamics.

• Identify priority assets requiring value creation initiatives or turnaround.

• Lead turnaround strategies and restructuring plans to recover value or reposition underperforming assets.

• Ensure progress, discipline, and delivery momentum across the pipeline of capital projects post-FID.

• Coordinate with internal teams, portfolio companies, and external stakeholders to track execution, identify bottlenecks, and escalate where needed.

• Establish project monitoring frameworks and drive accountability for timely, cost-effective, and quality-aligned implementation.

• Champion a delivery mindset to ensure projects remain aligned with intended impact and returns.

• Support planning and execution of divestment strategies for relevant assets.

• Coordinate market readiness inputs and liaise with advisors and internal teams.

• Participate in transaction preparation, due diligence, and follow-through.

• Maintain awareness of sectors developments and emerging trends through regular engagement with industry stakeholders, policy-makers, and regulators.

• Proactively engage with experts and internal research teams to ensure benchmarks and data-driven decisions.

• Maintain strong and proactive engagement with portfolio companies as key drivers of operational performance.

• Collaborate to co-develop value creation plans, monitor execution, and unlock growth opportunities.

• Ensure clear orchestration between OIA expectations and execution capacity through structured oversight and accountability.

• Align execution capacity with AM expectations through structured interaction.

• Participate in external engagements with regulators, policy-makers, and shareholders as required.

• Support structured stakeholder engagement planning and documentation.

• Lead AM-related matters with OIA Board, IC, and sub-committees, including preparing high-quality materials.

• Ensure follow-through on decisions, and timely execution of action items.

• Maintain coordination with relevant OIA units to unlock collaborative opportunities.

• Work closely with the Investment Development team on project execution oversight and reinvestment cases.

• Provide regular updates to Director on progress, risks, and outcomes across assigned assets.

• Represent the AM function in selected forums and stakeholder meetings.

• Ensure data and insights are presented clearly and professionally.

• Lead and manage Analysts/Associates through effective recruitment, capability building, role clarity, and succession planning.

• Foster a high-performance culture centered on accountability.

• Oversee analyst deployment, workload balancing, and performance input.

• Guide team development and coaching frameworks; manage evaluations.

• Ensure timely execution of operational processes within assigned portfolio scope.

• Lead reporting on AM activity, companies performance, risks, and interventions.

• Ensure data integrity and provide timely input to related teams and the Investment MIS unit.

• Deploy dashboards, scorecards, and monitoring protocols.

• Contribute to the development and implementation of OIA policies and procedures and those relating to development of AM tools, templates, and procedures

• Ensure compliance with broader OIA frameworks and foster a culture of accountability.

• Identify and raise process and performance improvement ideas.

• Enhance AM practices, tools, and frameworks.

• Support implementation of AM best practices and digital tools.

• Ensure compliance with all applicable health, safety, and quality standards to safeguard team well-being and maintain high-performance environments.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

• Portfolio and company return / value uplift.

• Portfolio company performance uplift (operational / financial / strategic) against benchmarks

• Value creation initiatives executed and their impact.

• Number and recovery of distressed assets.

• Timeliness and quality of governance deliverables.

• Targets and KPI variance.

• Completion of risk mitigation actions.

• Effectiveness of turnaround and recovery plans.

• Exit timing and value realization vs. target.

• Stakeholder coordination effectiveness.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Economics, Accounting, or any other relevant field
  • Master’s degree is desirable
  • Preferable CFA, CMA, CPA, FMVA, FRM
  • 11 to 13 years of related work experience, preferable experience in Energy or Logistics investments
