Overview
Benaroya Research Institute (BRI) is seeking a Manager for the Cell and Tissue Analysis Core, a leadership role at the heart of our collaborative, cutting-edge research environment. In this role, you will oversee the daily functions of our Core laboratory and related services, ensuring researchers have the expertise and tools they need to answer complex biological questions across basic, translational, and clinical science.

The Cell and Tissue Analysis Core is home to a broad and specialized set of instrumentation, including:

  • Multiple analytic and sorting flow cytometers, including three spectral cell analyzers and a BD S8 Spectral Cell Sorter
  • A suite of standard transmission and fluorescence microscopes
  • A scanning confocal microscope
  • An automated, highly multiplexed plate-reading spinning disk confocal (ImageXpress confocal HT.ai)
  • A fully equipped histology laboratory for staining and analysis of FFPE and frozen tissue sections

Responsibilities
Among other duties, the Manager, Cell and Tissue Analysis Core is responsible for:

  • Supervising the daily maintenance, calibration and operation of core instrumentation by core staff and/or laboratory personnel

  • Implementing a comprehensive training program for each instrument that includes appropriate considerations to biological and chemical safety

  • Overseeing the scheduled use, preventative maintenance and repair of core instrumentation.

  • Acting as liaison with investigators who would like to utilize the lab's technology, consulting in experimental design to address questions with available technology. This includes coordinating with biostatistics and bioinformatics groups as needed for experimental design and analysis

  • Providing supervision and instruction to technicians and other lab personnel to ensure adequate stocking, evaluation and ordering of equipment and reagents

  • Regularly interfacing with other d resource groups (e.g., Genomics and Bioinformatics/Biostatistics) to ensure integration of BRI Core functions in specialized applications such as spatial transcriptomics

  • Engaging with representatives from relevant manufacturers and suppliers

  • Maintaining and disseminating knowledge of growth in new technologies

  • Engaging with the local and regional Core manager community

  • Building/maintaining core lab budgets and cost structures, and billing for core lab use

  • Serving on intuitional committees relevant to the core function, such as the general safety committee or institutional biosafety committee


The Manager, Cell and Tissue Analysis Core will report directly to a supervising Principal Investigator.

Requirements
This position requires a Bachelor’s degree or higher, and at least 5 years of relevant experience with core instrumentation. Supervisory experience required, may substitute post-baccalaureate education for equivalent experience.

Compensation
Annual salary range is $88,760 to $156,010. Final placement within this range will depend on education, experience, and qualifications.
