The Manager, Maintenance is responsible for managing plant maintenance functions consisting of predictive, preventive and corrective maintenance programs, turnaround activities, root cause failure analysis, NDT inspection program and special maintenance projects. The Maintenance Manager also leads a team of maintenance personnel including mechanical, instrumentation, electrical and multi-craft to confirm work is performed in compliance with company standard, industrial codes and safety regulations.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Manages 5 or more team members
- Implements regional maintenance and reliability initiatives and programs to execute company strategies to improve reliability, boost workforce efficiency, maintain compliance and minimize overall risk.
- Works closely with regional operational leadership and support functions to ensure alignment and successful adoption of critical processes and programs.
- Manages the reliability group to drive execution of maintenance and reliability programs.
- Responsible for field execution of the Overhaul Program, Turnarounds, Mechanical Integrity Program, PSV Program and Risk Based Inspection (RBI) Program.
- Works closely with the operations organization to develop and drive the reliability program, maintenance work process, materials and warehousing processes, turnaround, relief valve and mechanical integrity strategies.
- Responsible for coordinating complex project management tasks and simultaneously managing Javelina maintenance system with limited assistance.
- Provides feedback in the development of company procedures, maintenance methods and processes to improve equipment reliability and drive compliance.
- Leverages metrics to drive continuous improvement of preventive and predictive programs, drive maintenance efficiencies, assess equipment condition relative to safety and serviceability, and monitor and improve on equipment downtime and maintenance costs.
- Represents reliability in numerous region-wide/multidepartment initiatives.
- Responsible for executing a program that supports overhauls, turnarounds, relief valve inspections and mechanical integrity inspections for the region.
- Responsible for developing and managing departmental budgets.
- Trains and develops employees in the maintenance department.
- Conducts annual performance reviews.
- Reviews and recommends salary and bonus adjustments.
- Conducts safety training.
- Evaluates craft functions and skills inventories of crafts.
- Serves as a backup for the Director of Operations.
- Oversees work assignments and provides direction as needed.
- Acts as a project coordinator during outages and turnarounds.
- Supplements workforce as needed during emergencies.
- Provides accurate and timely communications to all departments, outside suppliers and all outside agencies.
- Supervises individual jobs, procures required materials, repairs and installs equipment per required standards.
- Troubleshoots problems, determines solutions, and implements solutions in either a group or individual setting.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Strong technical skills in maintenance and reliability engineering.
- Maintains knowledge and ability to apply engineering standards as they relate to Javelina.
- Knowledge of industry standards and practices.
- Fully trained in safety, environmental, and Process Safety Management (PSM) procedures.
- Strong background in developing and managing preventative and predictive maintenance programs.
- Proven leadership skills and ability to influence at a local level and across a broad organization.
- Ability to manage budgets, timelines, and resources.
- Strong communication skills, interpersonal skills, and ability to build relationships.
- High level of attention to detail to ensure accuracy in maintenance activities and documentation.
- Understanding of industry safety and regulations (OSHA, NEC, etc.).
- Trustworthy, accountable, and strong leader.
- High level of customer service skills to interact with internal and external stakeholders.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team.
- Must be able to travel and work in the office as well as in plants and in the field.
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 5+ years of experience in reliability, maintenance or inspection management
Certifications:
- Certified in specialty skills by either inter-company or by outside agencies
Physical Demands and Hazard for Field Employees:
This position may require occasional travel to remote sites, potential exposure to flammable material, adherence to safety protocols, compliance with operating regulations, and will require rigorous physical demands.
