Role

Manager Tax Litigation is a critical role that requires strong tax and legal expertise, the ability to develop effective tax strategies and manage a variety of responsibilities, including monitoring existing and upcoming tax disputes, maintaining close coordination with tax consultants & legal advisors to effectively managing tax litigation, overseeing stay management, ensuring updated litigation data and accurate risk reporting. This position is responsible for overseeing and managing all tax-related disputes and litigation for PMCL Group.

The role reports directly to the Stream Head Tax Litigation and has two direct reports.

What does Manager Tax Litigation do?

  • Work closely with tax consultants, legal team and lawyers to develop and implement strategic plans for handling tax-related disputes and litigations.
  • Stay up-to-date with changes in tax laws and regulations and conduct thorough legal research to support litigation strategies.
  • Collate data/information from relevant departments & prepare, review and file underlying evidences / information, legal responses, stay applications and other documents related to tax litigation.
  • Ensure all documentation is accurate, complete, and submitted within specified deadlines.
  • Represent PMCL Group in hearings, trials, and discussions with Tax Authorities. Present arguments effectively and advocate for the best interests of the organization.
  • Oversee the management of stays, ensuring compliance with orders and procedural requirements.
  • Coordinate with relevant teams and tax consultants proactively to address stay-related challenges.
  • Maintain comprehensive dashboards and lists for stays, tracking critical information and deadlines related to ongoing tax litigation cases.
  • Provide regular tax-related litigation updates to relevant teams and management
  • Prepare risk reports detailing the status and exposure of tax litigation cases, potential risks, and mitigation strategies. Provide recommendations to senior management for risk management and decision-making.
  • Evaluate Uncertain Tax Positions from provisioning point of view and preparation of related position papers
  • Prepare quarterly reports for the Head Quarter tax team
  • Identifying Taxation matters impacting Telecom industry and onboarding industry counterparts for mutually effective Tax Litigation to achieve success on a shared vision
  • Run detailed risk assessment on each tax-related dispute and ensure that relevant impacts, if any, are reported and recorded correctly and timely

Requirements

  • Qualified CA or ACCA/ Part qualified CA / MBA.
  • 10+ years of experience. Telecom sector experience will be preferred.
  • Ideally candidate’s most recent experience should be in the tax department of a multinational corporation/local company/professional accounting firm with similar responsibilities as this role
  • Candidates with 5+ years of managerial experience in tax department of Top 10 accounting firms will be preferred
  • Strong knowledge of income tax and sales tax laws and experience of handling tax litigation in Pakistan
  • Strong tax accounting and analytical skills.
  • Experience of tax compliance processes
  • Candidates who can demonstrate that they have relationships in Islamabad tax field offices and provincial revenue authorities will be preferred
  • Experience of accounting and financial reporting at a senior level along with above-mentioned tax knowledge is preferred
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Experience of internal and external stakeholder management.
  • Experience of working with ERP’s such as Oracle Fusion
  • Experienced in Windows OS and MS Office suite of products particularly MS Excel in which candidate should have advanced level skills.
