Marine Superintendent is a shore-based senior role in the maritime/shipping industry. The professional oversees the safe, efficient, and compliant operation of a fleet of vessels (tankers, bulk carriers, offshore vessels, etc.). CategoryRequirementsEducationBachelor’s/Master’s in Nautical Science, Marine Engineering, or related maritime field.CertificatesMaster Mariner (Unlimited/Class 1) or Chief Engineer CoC (preferred). Often requires sailing experience as Master or Chief Engineer. ISM Internal Auditor qualification is a plus.Sea Experience5–10+ years at sea, with significant time in senior ranks (e.g., 2–3 years as Master/Chief Officer or Chief Engineer).Shore Experience3–8 years as Marine/Technical Superintendent or similar shore-based role, preferably in UAE/GCC.Key SkillsStrong knowledge of IMO conventions, leadership, crisis management, English fluency (Arabic is a big advantage in UAE), budget management, vetting (SIRE/OCIMF), and computer skills (MS Office, etc.). UAE driving license often required for port visits.OtherExperience with dry-docking (e.g., Drydocks World), offshore vessels, or LNG/STS operations is highly valued in UAE. Valid UAE residency visa sponsorship is common for expats.
