The Marine Supervisor is responsible for overseeing and coordinating all marine operations to ensure the safe, efficient, and compliant movement of vessels, cargo, and personnel. This role involves supervising marine activities such as vessel berthing, loading/unloading, maintenance, inspections, and adherence to safety and environmental standards. The Marine Supervisor serves as the key liaison between vessel crews, port authorities, contractors, and company management.

Key Responsibilities:

Operational Management:

  • Supervise day-to-day marine operations, including vessel movements, cargo handling, and marine logistics.
  • Ensure compliance with international, national, and local maritime regulations (e.g., IMO, SOLAS, MARPOL).
  • Coordinate and monitor vessel berthing, mooring, and unmooring operations.
  • Oversee the scheduling and deployment of tugs, pilots, and other marine service providers.
  • Ensure all marine activities align with company operational standards and efficiency goals.

Safety and Compliance:

  • Enforce company safety management systems (SMS) and permit-to-work systems.
  • Conduct safety inspections, risk assessments, and toolbox talks.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental protection policies and pollution prevention measures.
  • Investigate incidents or near-misses and recommend corrective actions.

Personnel Supervision:

  • Supervise and mentor marine crew, dock workers, and support personnel.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and provide training on marine operations and safety procedures.
  • Coordinate with HR and training departments for crew certifications and competency requirements.

Maintenance and Inspection:

  • Oversee maintenance of marine equipment, mooring gear, and navigational aids.
  • Conduct regular vessel and terminal inspections to ensure seaworthiness and operational readiness.
  • Report and track maintenance issues to ensure timely rectification.

Coordination and Communication:

  • Liaise with port authorities, contractors, vessel masters, and logistics coordinators.
  • Maintain accurate records of vessel movements, cargo operations, and marine incidents.
  • Provide operational reports and updates to management.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marine Engineering, Nautical Science, Maritime Studies, or equivalent maritime discipline.
  • Valid Certificate of Competency (e.g., Chief Mate, Master Mariner) preferred.
  • Minimum 5–10 years of relevant experience in marine or offshore operations.
  • Strong knowledge of international maritime conventions and port operations.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in marine management software and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to work in offshore or remote environments as required.
