Master Electrician solar qualifier

Job Summary
We are seeking a California licensed Electrical Contractor / Master Electrician with solar industry expertise to serve as a Solar Qualifier for a large commercial installation on a tile roof covering six buildings in Encinitas CA. You will need to pull permits for this job, review the engineering, sit inspections and help handle interconnectivity. We have our own out-of-state Master Electrician as foreman, but he is not licensed in CA.

If you cannot pull commercial electrical permits for solar in Encinitas, DO NOT APPLY!

Pay is negotiable based on level of work. If you serve only as a qualifier using your license and check work and sit inspections, then pay is less than doing the actual electrical work and supervision. If we subcontract with you or your company to do most of the installation under the approval of our foreman, the pay will be completely different. We are looking to start installation in May but permitting will begin soon. The job will probably last between 100-120 days.

Duties (vary depending on whether you are the primary electrician or just the qualifier)

  • Review and interpret electrical schematics, blueprints, and technical schematics related to solar power systems and construction projects.
  • Conduct detailed inspections of electrical systems on construction sites, including low voltage and high voltage wiring, ensuring compliance with NEC (National Electrical Code) standards.
  • Qualify solar installation projects by verifying proper wiring, grounding, and system integration using tools such as ohmmeters, power tools, and hand tools.
  • Oversee installation teams to ensure adherence to safety protocols, including proper handling of power tools and high-voltage equipment.
  • Test electrical circuits and components using diagnostic tools; troubleshoot issues related to schematics or system performance.
  • Ensure all work meets local electrical codes and regulations; prepare documentation for inspections and permits.
  • Lead training sessions for team members on programmable logic controllers (PLCs), low voltage systems, and other electrical components specific to solar installations.
  • Collaborate with project managers to schedule work phases, coordinate resources, and ensure timely project completion.
  • Maintain detailed records of inspections, test results, and compliance documentation for each project phase.

Experience

  • Proven experience as an industrial or commercial electrician with a strong background in construction site environments.
  • Extensive knowledge of NEC standards, blueprint reading, schematics interpretation, and electrical code compliance.
  • Hands-on experience working with programmable logic controllers (PLCs), low voltage systems, high voltage systems, and renovation projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate power tools, hand tools, ohmmeters, and other diagnostic equipment efficiently and safely.
  • Prior experience in solar energy projects or renewable energy installations is highly desirable.
  • Strong understanding of construction processes related to electrical systems within commercial or industrial settings.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot complex electrical issues quickly and accurately.
