Mechanical Engineer

Job Objective:

• Lead, design and develop automotive products according to customer specification and Customer design guidelines

Job Responsibilities:

• Provide technical solutions in quotation phase according to customer requirement and company standard.

• Prepare and provide technical design review (TDR) document to win new business.

• Provide engineering hours and cost information in quotation phase.

• Conduct product design and create 3D model/2D drawing in NX or CATIA, relative technical specifications and documents in required Customer systems.

• Conduct tolerance calculations and implement them in to designs.

• Conduct design reviews and close open issues found in the review.

• Work out mechanical design timing plan based on project timing.

• Manage product design status (timing, risks, customer requirements), and escalate to correct level if necessary.

• Provide technical support for DV and PV testing plans.

• Troubleshoot in development phase and support field complaints.

• Participate in DFMEA and FMEA as lead and moderator.

• Join and support trial runs in manufacturing plant before SOP.

• Directly interface with the Customer regarding product design, specification development, work requests and cost reduction activities.

• Work with the BCS Purchasing and Global Tooling Groups to direct the activities of external suppliers in designing, developing and producing components and associated component tooling for Customer products.

• Support Customer Manufacturing and Quality teams within the various assembly plants on product design/manufacturability and assembly requirements for finished goods.

• Be knowledgeable of and comply with all Customer IATF policies and procedures in the application of job duties.

• 10% of travelling requested (domestic and international).

• Perform all other duties as assigned.

Basic Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in engineering or equivalent technical discipline and a minimum of 5 years of Product Design Engineering experience within the automotive industry, OR

• Associate's degree in mechanical design or equivalent technical discipline and a minimum of 7 years of Product Design Engineering experience within the automotive industry.

Preferred Skills and Experience:

• Experience and knowledge of the automotive product development processes.

• Experience and knowledge of plastic material; injection mold design and molding process; plastic part surface requirements; stamping tool and process; silicon material and application; PCB concept design and DFM (design for manufacturing).

• In-depth experience and knowledge of motion analysis; stress-strain analysis; back lighting design/simulation; active/passive haptic design; DFMEA (Design Failure Mode Effects Analysis; GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerance); Tolerance stacks.

• Root cause analysis skills and tools.

• CAD skill and experience (UG NX or Catia).

• Strong communication/ leadership/ coaching skills to lead and oversee the work of young engineers.

• Experience with the automotive PPAP process, engineering change systems and business processes.

• Experience in high volume manufacturing processes and common quality control principles.

• Familiarity with standardized and automotive laboratory test methods.

• Computer literacy in basic PC-based office software.

• English language competency.

• Chinese and / Mexico language is a plus.
