Job Summary:
The Mechanical Procurement Engineer is responsible for managing the procurement of firefighting and fire protection systems materials, ensuring cost-effective purchasing, and maintaining strong relationships with suppliers. This role involves sourcing, vendor negotiation, cost control, material planning, and ensuring compliance with UAE Civil Defense and NFPA standards. The candidate must ensure timely procurement of high-quality materials to support ongoing projects.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Procurement & Sourcing
- Source and procure firefighting system components, including:
- Fire pumps, pipes, valves, and fittings.
- Fire suppression systems (FM-200, NOVEC, CO2).
- Fire sprinkler systems, fire alarms, fire extinguishers, and hydrants.
- Other mechanical components required for fire protection projects.
- Identify, evaluate, and approve new suppliers and manufacturers.
- Request, analyze, and compare quotations from multiple vendors to ensure competitive pricing.
2. Negotiation & Cost Control
- Negotiate best pricing, payment terms, and delivery schedules with suppliers.
- Develop cost-reduction strategies while ensuring compliance with quality standards.
- Monitor and evaluate market trends and material price fluctuations.
3. Supplier & Vendor Management
- Develop and maintain long-term relationships with key suppliers.
- Monitor supplier performance in terms of pricing, quality, and timely delivery.
- Address and resolve supply chain issues, material shortages, and vendor disputes.
4. Purchase Order & Contract Management
- Issue purchase orders (POs) based on approved project requirements.
- Ensure all purchase agreements meet company policies and industry regulations.
- Track and follow up on purchase orders, shipping, and logistics to ensure on-time delivery.
5. Inventory & Material Planning
- Coordinate with warehouse and site teams to ensure efficient material supply.
- Monitor and manage minimum stock levels for critical firefighting equipment.
- Work with the logistics team to handle import/export documentation and customs clearance.
6. Compliance & Documentation
- Ensure all purchased materials meet NFPA, UAE Fire & Life Safety Code, and Civil Defense requirements.
- Maintain accurate procurement records, including POs, supplier agreements, and invoices.
- Assist in obtaining necessary Civil Defense approvals for firefighting materials.
7. Coordination with Internal Teams
- Work closely with project, estimation, and engineering teams to align procurement with project timelines.
- Provide the estimation team with updated material costs for tenders and quotations.
- Coordinate with the finance department for payment approvals and budgeting.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- Experience: Minimum 2-3 years in procurement within the firefighting, MEP, or construction industry.
- Certifications: Supply Chain Management certification is a plus.
- Technical Skills:
- Strong knowledge of fire protection systems and mechanical firefighting materials.
- Understanding of NFPA, UAE Civil Defense, and international fire safety regulations.
- Proficiency in MS Office, ERP systems, and procurement software.
- Soft Skills:
- Excellent negotiation and communication skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to handle multiple projects and work under tight deadlines.
- Languages: Fluent in English; Arabic is an advantage.
