Media Specialist

Preschool through Fifth Grade
Part-Time | 10:30 a.m.–2:30 p.m.

Millhopper Montessori School is seeking a warm, organized, and enthusiastic Media Specialist to join our school community. This part-time position supports students from Preschool through Fifth Grade by helping foster a love of books, reading, research, and library skills within a gentle and respectful Montessori environment.

The Media Specialist works closely with classroom teachers, students, families, and administration to create an inviting and engaging Media Center that supports classroom curriculum and encourages lifelong learning.

Responsibilities Include:

The Media Specialist will:

  • Develop and teach age-appropriate library, media, and literary skills lessons for Preschool through Fifth Grade
  • Support classroom teachers by helping connect students with books, resources, and curriculum materials
  • Organize, maintain, and circulate library materials and media center resources
  • Catalog and process new materials using the Alexandria library system
  • Assist students with book selections and guide them in using a variety of learning materials
  • Maintain an attractive, clean, organized, and accessible Media Center
  • Plan monthly unit studies and support classroom themes
  • Help implement reading incentive programs, including the Sunshine State Young Readers program
  • Plan, promote, and oversee the Scholastic Book Fair once or twice per year
  • Communicate professionally with parents, staff, and administration
  • Maintain student records, complete report cards, and participate in parent conferences
  • Support field trips, special events, presentations, and school activities
  • Foster independence, self-direction, and a positive love of learning in students
  • Serve as a positive and professional representative of the school community

Qualifications:

Qualified candidates should have:

  • A BA or BS degree, four-year degree or higher preferred
  • At least one year of library-specific experience, including a familiarity with cataloguing principles.
  • Relevant experience, training, or professional experience working with children
  • CPR and First Aid Certification, or willingness to obtain certification
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • A love of children, books, learning, and literature
  • Basic computer skills and comfort learning library management software
  • A professional, positive, and collaborative attitude
  • An appreciation for Montessori values and a respectful classroom environment

The ideal candidate is gentle, dependable, creative, and highly organized. They enjoy working with children of varying ages, can collaborate well with teachers, and are excited to help students develop confidence, curiosity, and a love of reading.

Pay: From $30.00 per hour
