Job Overview
We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Medical Administrative Assistant to join our healthcare team. In this vital role, you will serve as the first point of contact for patients and healthcare providers, ensuring smooth clinic operations and exceptional patient service. Your expertise in medical administrative support, combined with your knowledge of medical terminology and hospital procedures, will help facilitate efficient patient intake, appointment scheduling, and documentation. Duties
- Manage patient intake processes by verifying insurance information, collecting demographic data, and updating electronic health record (EHR) systems accurately.
- Schedule appointments for outpatient clinics, inpatient units, and emergency departments while coordinating with medical staff to optimize patient flow.
- Assist with vital signs collection, basic physiology assessments, and recording patient information during visits or hospital stays.
- Support clinical staff by preparing examination rooms, sterilizing equipment, and assisting with minor procedures or X-ray documentation as needed.
- Maintain comprehensive documentation including ICD coding (International Classification of Diseases), medication administration records, and progress notes to ensure compliance with healthcare regulations.
- Facilitate communication between patients and healthcare providers by answering inquiries, providing instructions for follow-up care, and managing referrals.
- Ensure all administrative tasks adhere to HIPAA privacy standards while maintaining a welcoming environment for diverse patient populations across outpatient and inpatient settings.
Skills
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and hospital medicine practices.
- Experience working within hospital environments such as Level I Trauma Centers or Level II Trauma Centers is highly desirable.
- Proficiency with Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems and familiarity with ICD coding for accurate billing and documentation.
- Ability to perform intake assessments including vital signs measurement and basic patient care support in outpatient or inpatient settings.
- Knowledge of emergency medicine procedures, Geriatrics care protocols, PICU (Pediatric Intensive Care Unit), OR (Operating Room) support, and medical-surgical practices.
- Excellent patient service skills with the ability to communicate clearly and empathetically across diverse populations.
- Basic life support (BLS) certification is preferred to assist in emergency situations effectively.
