Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and knowledgeable Medical Billing and Coding Specialist to join our orthopedic healthcare team on-site. This role is crucial in ensuring accurate billing and coding for medical services, which directly impacts the financial health of our organization. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of medical terminology, coding systems, and billing procedures, along with experience in managing medical records efficiently.
Responsibilities
- Accurately code diagnoses and procedures using ICD-10 and CPT coding systems.
- Process medical billing and collections to ensure timely payment for services rendered.
- Maintain and manage electronic medical records (EMR) and electronic health records (EHR) systems.
- Review patient charts for completeness and accuracy before billing submission.
- Collaborate with healthcare providers to clarify any discrepancies in documentation or coding.
- Stay updated on changes in coding regulations and practices to ensure compliance.
- Assist in the resolution of billing inquiries from patients or insurance companies.
- Ensure confidentiality and security of patient information in accordance with HIPAA regulations.
Skills
- Proficient in DRG, CPT coding, ICD-10, and general ICD coding practices.
- Strong knowledge of medical billing processes and medical collection techniques.
- Experience working in an orthopedic office environment is preferred.
- Familiarity with EMR systems and EHR systems for efficient record management.
- Comprehensive understanding of medical terminology relevant to coding and billing functions.
- Ability to accurately interpret medical records for effective coding practices.
- Excellent attention to detail with strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks effectively.
