Medical Records Technician

Job Summary:

We are looking for an experienced and detail-oriented Medical Record Technician (MRT) with 5+ years of hospital experience to manage, maintain, and ensure accuracy of patient medical records. The ideal candidate will have strong knowledge of medical documentation, coding standards, confidentiality norms, and hospital information systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain, organize, and update patient medical records in compliance with hospital policies and legal requirements.
  • Ensure accuracy, completeness, and timely availability of medical records for clinical, administrative, and legal purposes.
  • Perform quantitative and qualitative analysis of medical records to ensure proper documentation by clinicians.
  • Handle coding, indexing, and classification of diseases and procedures as per ICD standards.
  • Retrieve and assemble medical records for audits, insurance claims, medico-legal cases, and court requirements.
  • Coordinate with doctors, nurses, and departments to rectify incomplete or incorrect documentation.
  • Ensure strict confidentiality and security of patient information as per hospital and statutory guidelines.
  • Supervise junior medical record staff and guide them in daily operations.
  • Prepare statistical reports related to admissions, discharges, morbidity, and mortality.
  • Support NABH / JCI / statutory audits and inspections.

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Medical Record Technology (MRT) or Health Information Management.
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in a multi-specialty hospital.
  • Sound knowledge of ICD-10/ICD-11 coding standards.
  • Experience in handling electronic medical records (EMR/HIS).
  • Familiarity with medico-legal documentation and insurance processes.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.

Skills Required:

  • Proficiency in hospital information systems and MS Office.
  • Excellent documentation and record-keeping abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and meet strict deadlines.
  • Good communication and coordination skills.
  • Knowledge of healthcare compliance and data privacy regulations.
