At Consultants in Ophthalmic and Facial Plastic Surgery, we specialize in the delicate art and science of eyelid, orbital, and facial reconstructive surgery. Our team of board-certified oculoplastic surgeons provides compassionate, precise, and patient-centered care in both functional and aesthetic procedures. We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Medical Scribe to join our practice and support our physicians in delivering efficient, world-class care. The Medical Scribe works directly with our oculoplastic surgeons to document patient encounters in real time. This role is essential in maintaining accurate, thorough medical records and optimizing clinic flow. The ideal candidate is organized, dependable, and passionate about medical documentation and patient care in a surgical specialty setting. Hands-on training and ongoing support will be provided to the successful candidate as you grow into the role.
Duties
- Accurately document physician–patient encounters, including history, examination findings, diagnoses, procedures, and treatment plans during consultations and follow-ups.
- Record detailed information specific to eyelid, orbital, lacrimal, and facial reconstructive or aesthetic procedures.
- Prepare and assist with operative reports, consent forms, and post-operative care instructions.
- Enter and manage patient information in the electronic medical record (EMR) system.
- Ensure all documentation meets medical, legal, and billing compliance standards.
- Coordinate effectively with clinical staff, technicians, and administrative team members to maintain efficient patient flow.
- Support physicians during pre- and post-operative patient photography and documentation when needed.
- Maintain the highest level of professionalism, accuracy, and patient confidentiality (HIPAA compliance).
- This job requires travel to remote offices including Southgate, Livonia and Flint (Consultants has a mileage reimbursement policy for traveling to remote offices).
Qualifications
- Prior experience as a medical scribe, ophthalmic technician, or in a plastic surgery or oculoplastic practice is helpful but not required.
- Strong understanding of medical terminology.
- Proficiency with EMR systems (experience with Nextech, ModMed, or similar platforms is a plus but not required).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Exceptional attention to detail and time management skills.
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced clinical environment.
- Maintain a professional demeanor with both patients and colleagues.
