Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Medical Scribe/Ophthalmic Assistant to support our ophthalmology team in providing exceptional patient care. This role combines clinical assistance with documentation responsibilities, ensuring accurate and efficient recording of patient encounters. The ideal candidate will possess a strong foundation in medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology, along with experience in medical office procedures. This position offers an engaging opportunity to work closely with healthcare professionals while developing comprehensive clinical skills.

Duties

  • Assist eye care professional during patient examinations by documenting clinical notes, procedures, and diagnoses accurately in electronic medical records (EMR) systems.
  • Gather patient intake information, including medical history, current medications, and reason for visit, ensuring completeness and clarity.
  • Measure vital signs such as blood pressure, pulse, temperature, and visual acuity to support clinical assessments.
  • Maintain aseptic technique during examinations and procedures to uphold infection control standards.
  • Prepare exam rooms with necessary instruments and supplies, ensuring a clean and organized environment.
  • Provide patient care support by explaining procedures, answering basic questions, and ensuring patient comfort throughout visits.
  • Manage medical records efficiently, including documentation of billing codes and assisting with medical coding processes.
  • Collaborate with the healthcare team to ensure seamless clinic operations while maintaining strict compliance with HIPAA regulations for patient privacy.

Position Overview

The primary responsibility of this role is medical scribing, working closely alongside the doctor to accurately document patient encounters in real time. The scribe will also be cross-trained as an ophthalmic assistant to support patient care and clinic flow.

This position follows the same schedule as the provider, requiring reliability and consistency.

Key Responsibilities

  • Accurately document patient histories, exam findings, and treatment plans in real time
  • Maintain clear, concise, and grammatically correct medical records
  • Assist the doctor during patient exams and procedures
  • Ensure all documentation is completed efficiently and thoroughly
  • Prepare exam rooms and assist with patient workup as trained
  • Support clinic flow to maintain an organized and timely patient experience
  • Maintain strict patient confidentiality and professionalism at all times

Qualifications

  • Excellent grammar, spelling, and data entry skills are required
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to listen, process, and document information quickly and accurately
  • Professional demeanor and strong communication skills
  • Dependable and punctual
  • Prior medical experience is a plus, but not required—we will train the right candidate

Schedule

  • Must be available to work the same schedule as the provider (full clinic hours)

Experience

  • Prior experience in a medical office setting is required, preferably within ophthalmology or optometry clinics.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy (particularly ocular anatomy), and physiology relevant to eye health.
  • Familiarity with EMR systems or similar platforms is essential for documentation accuracy.
  • Experience in patient intake procedures, vital signs measurement, and maintaining aseptic techniques is highly desirable.

Pay: $15.50 - $17.50 per hour
