Job Summary:

Full-time

The Behavioral Health Billing Coordinator is responsible for reviewing outpatient medical documentation to ensure accurate billing and timely reimbursement for services. This role supports approximately 30 mental health providers across three outpatient offices and school-based programs. The Billing Coordinator collaborates with clinical staff, physicians, administrators, billing specialists, insurance carriers, and patients to verify insurance eligibility, resolve discrepancies, and ensure compliance with coding and documentation standards.

Duties/Responsibilities:

• Verify insurance eligibility for three outpatient offices and school-based programs; resolve eligibility issues by contacting insurance carriers and/or patients.
• Update and maintain patient insurance information within MEDITECH.
• Review and audit medical coding for approximately 30 providers by ensuring all billable services are accurately coded using ICD-10 and CPT codes.
• Confirm that all billed services are supported by appropriate clinical documentation.
• Generate reports for the administrative team as requested.
• Maintain patient panel accuracy as needed.
• Generate “Good Faith Estimates” for uninsured clients.
• Attend mandatory meetings, trainings, and committees as required.
• Perform all duties in compliance with agency policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
• Maintain strict confidentiality of all client information.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities (Unit Specific):

• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Knowledge of, or willingness to learn, CPT and ICD-10 coding standards.
• High level of professionalism when interacting with clients, providers, and staff.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Proficiency with computers and healthcare information systems.

Education and Experience:

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Medical coding certification or experience preferred.
• Experience with insurance eligibility preferred.
• Minimum of two (2) years of related experience in a healthcare or medical billing setting required.

Working Conditions:

• Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
• Ability to lift, push or pull up to 15 lbs. using proper body mechanics.
• Complies with DOH requirements for annual health assessments and required immunizations.

Pay Range: $20.50-$24.60/hr

Employee salary is based on commensurate experience and other qualifications.
