MEP Estimation Engineer ( Electrical & Plumbing)

Key Responsibilities

1. Cost Estimation & Tendering

  • Prepare detailed cost estimates for electrical and plumbing systems in construction projects.
  • Analyze drawings, specifications, and BOQs (Bill of Quantities).
  • Review tender documents and identify scope of work.
  • Prepare and submit competitive bids and proposals.

2. Quantity Takeoff

  • Perform quantity takeoffs for electrical (cables, panels, lighting, etc.) and plumbing (pipes, fittings, fixtures).
  • Use estimation software or manual calculations to determine material and labor requirements.

3. Vendor & Supplier Coordination

  • Request and evaluate quotations from suppliers and subcontractors.
  • Compare prices and ensure compliance with project specifications.
  • Maintain a database of material costs and suppliers.

4. Technical Review

  • Study electrical and plumbing drawings, load schedules, and schematics.
  • Identify discrepancies, missing details, or risks in project documents.
  • Coordinate with design and engineering teams for clarifications.

5. Cost Control & Value Engineering

  • Suggest cost-effective alternatives without compromising quality.
  • Analyze project budgets and recommend optimizations.
  • Support project teams with cost-related insights during execution.

6. Documentation & Reporting

  • Prepare BOQs, cost breakdowns, and estimation reports.
  • Maintain records of estimates, revisions, and historical cost data.
  • Assist in contract documentation and negotiations.

Required Skills & Competencies

  • Strong knowledge of electrical systems (LV/MV systems, lighting, power distribution).
  • Good understanding of plumbing systems (water supply, drainage, firefighting).
  • Proficiency in estimation tools (e.g., Excel, AutoCAD, PlanSwift, or similar software).
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Strong analytical and numerical skills.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Good communication and negotiation skills.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
  • 2–5+ years of experience in MEP estimation (varies by employer).
  • Experience in construction, contracting, or consultancy firms is preferred.

Work Environment

  • Typically employed by construction companies, MEP contractors, or engineering consultancies.
  • Office-based with coordination with site teams.
  • May work on residential, commercial, industrial, or infrastructure projects.

Pay: AED3,000.00 - AED6,500.00 per month
