Job Overview
We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing) Estimator to join our team and drive the success of our construction projects. In this role, you will be responsible for preparing accurate cost estimates for MEP systems, collaborating closely with project teams, subcontractors, and clients to ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget. Your expertise will help shape the financial planning and bidding strategies that underpin our projects’ success. Responsibilities
- Develop comprehensive MEP cost estimates by analyzing project drawings, specifications, and scope of work.
- Utilize estimating software such as HeavyBid and Bluebeam to prepare detailed bids and proposals.
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and subcontractors to gather accurate pricing data and ensure estimates reflect current market conditions.
- Conduct site visits to assess construction site conditions and gather on-the-ground insights for more precise estimating.
- Negotiate with suppliers and subcontractors to secure competitive pricing while maintaining quality standards.
- Assist in managing project budgets through effective cost control measures and tracking actual versus estimated costs throughout the project lifecycle.
- Review contracts, scope changes, and project modifications to update estimates accordingly, ensuring alignment with project goals.
Skills
- Proven experience in construction estimating with a strong focus on MEP systems.
- Proficiency in Bluebeam for document markup and collaboration; HeavyBid or similar estimating software is highly desirable.
- Solid understanding of construction management principles, including cost control, scheduling, and contract administration.
- Excellent negotiation skills to secure favorable terms with vendors and subcontractors.
- Hands-on construction site experience that provides practical insight into field conditions impacting estimates.
- Strong knowledge of contracts, project management processes, and safety standards within the construction industry.
- Effective communication skills to clearly present estimates and collaborate across teams. Key Responsibilities
- Quantify & Estimate: Perform detailed take-offs and prepare comprehensive cost estimates for Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, and Fire Protection systems.
- Subcontractor Relations: Solicit, review, and analyze MEP subcontractor bids for scope completeness, pricing accuracy, and compliance with project requirements.
- Value Engineering: Identify opportunities for cost savings and alternative materials or methods without compromising project quality or design intent.
- Collaboration: Work closely with Project Managers, Architects, Engineers, and Clients during the preconstruction phase to align project scopes with budgets.
- Site Visits & Assessments: Attend pre-bid meetings and perform site walkthroughs to evaluate existing conditions and risk factors.
- Market Knowledge: Stay updated on current material pricing, labor rates, and industry trends within the San Antonio and South Texas construction markets.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Experience: Minimum of 3–5 years of experience estimating MEP scopes specifically within commercial construction (General Contractor or MEP Subcontractor experience preferred).
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Mechanical/Electrical Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent field experience).
- Software Proficiency: Hands-on experience with estimating software such as On-Center QuickBid/On-Screen Takeoff (OST), Bluebeam Revu, ProEst, or RSMeans.
- Technical Skills: Ability to read and interpret complex blueprints, P&ID diagrams, and specifications. Strong knowledge of local San Antonio and Texas building codes.
- Soft Skills: Exceptional negotiation, communication, and analytical skills. Must be a self-starter who thrives in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.

Pay: $65,346.82 - $89,062.83 per year
