Job Description

Role Profile: Microsoft Fabric Development Lead
We are seeking a hands-on, reliable professional to lead and own our Microsoft Fabric data platform, ensuring performance, security, and alignment with our enterprise data strategy. This role requires proven experience across Fabric workloads, combining technical depth with a strong understanding of how business processes are represented in data to deliver trusted analytics, governed data products, and scalable data engineering solutions.

You will partner with stakeholders to understand data needs, architect end-to-end solutions across the Fabric ecosystem, and drive adoption of data analytics through a customer centric approach, ensuring insights are interpreted in the correct business and data context, while shaping the platform’s future direction.

Your Responsibilities
Platform Ownership
  • Administer and maintain the Microsoft Fabric environment, capacities, and workloads (Lakehouse, Warehouse, Pipelines, Data Engineering, Power BI).
  • Manage OneLake governance, shortcuts, security, and data lifecycle.
  • Ensure platform stability, scalability, and alignment with enterprise data architecture principles.
Architecture & Documentation
  • Own Fabric architecture documentation including workspace structure, pipelines, data products, semantic models, lineage, dependencies, and operational procedures.
  • Establish and maintain medallion architecture design standards.
Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement
  • Act as the primary point of contact for all Fabric and Power BI usage.
  • Partner with system owners, SMEs, and analysts to translate requirements into scalable Fabric based solutions.
  • Develop a strong understanding of how the business operates and how this is represented in underlying data, enabling informed, contextual conversations with stakeholders and ensuring data is analysed and interpreted holistically rather than in isolation.
Data Engineering & Analytics Development
  • Design, develop, and optimize Lakehouses, Warehouses, dataflows, and semantic models.
  • Build high quality data pipelines using Data Factory, notebooks, SQL, Python, and Spark.
  • Deliver intuitive, well governed Power BI reporting solutions layered on Fabric data products.
Enablement & Adoption
  • Champion data literacy and self-service analytics across the organization.
  • Run training, workshops, best practice sessions, and governance clinics focused on Fabric capabilities, specifically Power BI.
Monitoring, Operations & Incident Management
  • Monitor capacity, usage, throttling, cost, and workload performance.
  • Manage incidents, root cause analysis, and platform KPIs such as data product adoption, workspace maturity, and capacity consumption.
Strategic Roadmap & Innovation
  • Maintain the Fabric platform roadmap and evaluate new features across all workloads.
  • Recommend improvements, automations, scalability enhancements, and integration opportunities.
Governance & Compliance
  • Define and enforce governance for Fabric and Power BI including:
    • Workspace design & lifecycle
    • Access & permission models
    • Dataset / semantic model certification
    • Naming conventions & metadata
    • Data security (RLS/OLS), data masking, GDPR compliance
    • DevOps/Git integration policies
  • Lead harmonisation of analytics platforms, ensuring usability, reusability, and organisational consistency.

Your Skills and Experience
Essential
  • Proven experience delivering solutions across Microsoft Fabric workloads (Lakehouse, Warehouse, Pipelines, Data Engineering, Power BI).
  • Strong data engineering skills (SQL, Python, Spark, data modelling, Delta Lake).
  • Strong understanding of Fabric capacity management, workspace architecture, and governance.
  • Hands-on experience designing medallion architectures and reusable data products.
  • Expertise in Power BI development, semantic models, and DAX.
  • Experience with DevOps, Git integration, CI/CD for data and analytics.
  • Solid understanding of Microsoft 365 governance, compliance, and security.
  • Ability to translate business needs into end-to-end technical solutions.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Structured, independent, and reliable work approach.
  • Fluent in English.
Nice to Have
  • Experience with Azure Data Services (Synapse, Data Factory, SQL).
  • Microsoft certifications (Fabric, PL‑300, DP‑600, DP‑203).
  • Familiarity with scripting (PowerShell, Python).
  • Experience working in mid-sized or international organisations.
  • Basic administration knowledge of other M365 tools (SharePoint, Teams).
  • Basic administration knowledge of Atlassian tools (Jira/Confluence).
