Network Engineer

The primary area of responsibility is to manage, lead and support the ICCU network & Unified Communication systems through design input, operational tasks, troubleshooting issues and assigned projects. This role performs high quality support work, project management, customer service, and interacts between all areas of IT and the business as necessary.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintaining and administering computer networks and related computing environments including systems software, applications software, hardware, and configurations.
  • Performing disaster recovery operations and data backups when required.
  • Protecting data, software, and hardware by coordinating, planning, and implementing network security measures.
  • Troubleshooting, diagnosing, and resolving hardware, software, and other network and system problems.
  • Replacing faulty network hardware components when required.
  • Maintaining, configuring, and monitoring virus protection software and email applications.
  • Monitoring network performance to determine if adjustments need to be made.
  • Conferring with network users about solving existing system problems.
  • Operating master consoles to monitor the performance of networks and computer systems.
  • Coordinating computer network access and use.
  • Designing, configuring, and testing networking software, computer hardware, and operating system software.
  • Work to achieve team goals, be part of the culture, and provide excellent customer service.
  • Prioritize individual work and be accountable for that work through tickets and appropriate follow-up.
  • Manage/take ownership of system issues and ensuring they are resolved in a timely and quality manner.
  • Sustain the necessary data throughput rate by monitoring networking activity and maintaining existing equipment
  • Maintain the company phone system and work closely with the phone service provider to keep the lines active
  • Respond to network connectivity issues and resolve any wireless communication issues within the confines of the office
  • Manage, implement, and maintain all aspects of the ICCU network systems including routers, switches, firewalls, load balancers and internet filters and phone systems as outlined by ICCU’s architecture documents.
  • Lead other Network Team members while helping troubleshoot issues.
  • Ability to work after-hours to minimize impact to systems and infrastructure.
  • Complete assigned projects on schedule and in accordance with ICCU standards.
  • Provide excellent customer service to internal and external team members.
  • Follow all policies and procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree required in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field. Minimum 6-10 years of relevant IT work experience in developing complex networking, security and/or voice systems. Ability to lead and communicate with Executive Management, Credit Union personnel effectively through customized reports. CCNA level certification required. CCNP level certification preferred. Project management experience preferred. Experience with next-generation firewalls and security hardware platforms. Strong understanding of network infrastructure and network hardware. Ability to think through problems and visualize solutions. Ability to implement, administer, and troubleshoot network infrastructure devices, including wireless access points, firewall, routers, switches, controllers. Knowledge of application transport and network infrastructure protocols. Ability to create accurate network diagrams and documentation for design and planning network communication systems. Provides specific detailed information for hardware and software selection. Ability to quickly learn new or unfamiliar technology and products using documentation and internet resources. Ability to work with all levels of staff within and outside of IT and outside the organization. A self-starter able to work independently but comfortable working in a team environment. Good analytical and problem-solving skills. Dependable and flexible when necessary. Network security experience. LAN and WAN experience. Experience with monitoring and management tools such as Splunk, Site 24x7, SolarWinds. Ability to always maintain confidentiality of Credit Union and member records.

Ability to fix complex problems and determine appropriate priorities. Attention to detail on many concurrent projects and initiatives. Demonstrated ability to provide excellent customer service. Ability to work without supervision. A demonstrated cooperative and positive attitude toward members and other Credit Union staff. Must be willing to comply with the Bank Secrecy Act and USA Patriot Act as implemented by Idaho Central Credit Union.


Position Specific Additional Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to work all hours of the day onsite and remote.

Physical Requirements:

  • Perform tasks requiring manual dexterity (processing paperwork, filing, stapling, sorting, collating, typing, counting cash, etc.).
  • Sit for extended periods of time.
  • Lift 20-40 pounds of applicable supplies including but not limited to copy paper, cash drawers, marketing material, etc.
  • Repetitive motion using wrists, hands, and fingers.
  • Reach keyboards.
  • Ability to operate basic office machines (calculator, computer, telephone, copy machine, fax machine, etc.).
