Non-Profit Founding Chief Marketing Officer – Education/EdTech

United States

About the Mission

We’re building a national nonprofit platform to replace the fractured, for-profit edtech market with a unified system that serves every student, teacher, and district—regardless of zip code. This is public infrastructure, not another startup.

Our mission needs more than engineers. It needs a storyteller. A strategist. Someone who can help America understand what we’re building and why it matters.

The Role

As Founding CMO, you’ll lead the public narrative for the most ambitious education nonprofit in decades. You’ll shape how parents, educators, district leaders, and policymakers perceive us—and why they trust us.

This is a full-stack marketing role: positioning, messaging, brand, outreach, political optics, and strategic partnerships. You’re not selling software. You’re creating a movement.

Responsibilities

  • Craft and own the brand narrative for a national nonprofit platform
  • Develop clear, compelling messaging for multiple stakeholders (parents, teachers, districts, states, foundations)
  • Lead PR, digital campaigns, and thought leadership efforts to build credibility and reach
  • Manage political optics and public trust—especially around student data and AI use
  • Collaborate with CEO and CGO on government and philanthropic communications
  • Drive content, web, email, and partner marketing with a small, mission-aligned team
  • Build playbooks for national and regional awareness campaigns
  • Position the organization as a trusted, apolitical public institution—not a vendor

Who You Are

  • Senior marketing leader with experience in education, public sector, or mission-driven organizations
  • Exceptional writer and strategist who can turn complexity into clarity
  • Able to operate across messaging, brand, digital, and earned media
  • Skilled in managing narrative risk, trust-building, and political nuance
  • Bonus: background in public policy, edtech, philanthropy, or gov comms

Why This Matters

We’re not here to compete with edtech vendors—we’re here to make them obsolete. The future of public education depends on trust, clarity, and purpose. You’ll be the one shaping how that story is told.
