The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is hiring two Wildlife Area Supervisors in the Division of Fish Wildlife & Parks. The DNR is a great place to work! This recruitment is for two positions. The Waukesha Area Supervisor position may be headquartered in the Vernon Marsh Field Office, Milwaukee Service Center and the Fitchburg Area Supervisor position may be headquartered in Fitchburg Service Center, Horicon Marsh Education and Visitor Center depending on business needs and the location of the selected candidate. Other locations may be considered dependent on space and supervisor approval.


Remote work may be available for a portion of the work week, after the initial probation period.

Position Summary

The Wisconsin DNR is seeking two Area Wildlife Supervisors to oversee and implement the Wildlife Management Program across a multi-county area. In these roles, you’ll guide a dedicated team, foster collaboration across conservation programs, and ensure the sustainable management of wildlife and habitats. With opportunities to engage with communities, lead habitat projects, and strengthen partnerships, thiee positions offer the chance to make a lasting impact on both wildlife and people in southern Wisconsin.

Salary Information


Starting pay for this position is between $43.56 to $45.67 per hour, in addition to excellent benefits. This position is included in the classification Natural Resource Area Supervisor within Pay Schedule/Range 81-03.

This position is not represented by a collective bargaining unit. Pay on appointment will follow the provisions of the State of Wisconsin Compensation Plan.

Job Details


Background Checks: The Department of Natural Resources conducts criminal background checks on final applicants prior to job offer. Eligibility to work in United States: The Department of Natural Resources does not sponsor work visas at the time of hire or anytime during employment. Probation: A 12-month probationary period may be required.

Remote Work: Based on an assessment of the goals and work activities, this position may be eligible for remote work. Remote work approval is based on individual circumstances and is subject to supervisor approval and DNR remote work policies. Approval is subject to change without notice based on business needs. Employees with approved remote work arrangements are generally expected to work within the state of Wisconsin.

Travel: Some travel is required, including occasional overnight stays.


Qualifications

Required qualifications include ALL the following criteria:

  • Leadership experience including paid or unpaid experience leading a team or work of others, team building, motivating others, training/coaching/mentoring others, constructive criticism, etc.
  • Work experience and/or educational training experience in wildlife management.
  • Experience in budget management within a paid work environment

In addition, preferred qualifications include any of the following criteria:

  • An earned bachelor’s degree or higher in Wildlife Management, Ecology, Habitat Management, Nature Based Recreation, or related field.
  • Supervisory experience with direct reports including directly supervising staff, hiring, employee discipline, performance evaluation, etc.
  • Experience developing and analyzing policies or procedures
