Responsibilities
Financial Management
- Lead all accounting and financial operations, including general ledger, AP/AR, and payroll
- Manage monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes with a focus on accuracy and timeliness
- Prepare and present financial statements to leadership
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and maintain strong internal controls. FAR knowledge is a plus
- Serve as primary liaison with external CPAs, auditors, and tax advisors
- Review reconciliations, journal entries, and financial data for accuracy
- Ensure timely processing of invoices, collections, and vendor payments
- Establish and improve accounting workflows, internal controls, and documentation
Office Management
- Oversee daily office operations, ensuring efficient administrative workflows
- Support project managers and leadership with operational and financial coordination
- Maintain and improve systems, policies, and procedures to enhance efficiency
- Oversee planning and execution of employee events, meetings, and company functions
Personnel Management
- Directly supervise and support the administrative and accounting staff
- Review entries, reconciliations, and reports for accuracy and completeness
- Assign and prioritize daily administrative and accounting tasks
- Provide training, guidance, and process improvements
HR & Administration
- Oversee payroll processing, benefits administration, and employee records
- Support recruiting, onboarding, and general HR administration
- Support leadership with administrative and operational needs
Compliance & Licensing
- Research and manage state and local licensing requirements
- Oversee compliance with contract requirements, including insurance and reporting
- Ensure timely filing of taxes, reports, and regulatory documentation
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- 7+ years of progressive accounting/finance experience, including leadership responsibility
- Prior experience in AEC, consulting, or professional services environment strongly preferred
- Strong experience with project accounting, WIP, and revenue recognition methodologies
- Experience supervising a bookkeeper or accounting staff strongly preferred
- Proficiency in Deltek Ajera (strongly preferred) or similar ERP systems (e.g. Deltek Vision/Vantagepoint)
- Prior experience as a Controller, Senior Accountant, or similar role preferred
- Strong knowledge of GAAP; familiarity with FAR is a plus
- Advanced Excel skills and strong financial analysis capabilities
- Excellent organizational, analytical, communication, and leadership skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in a small to mid-sized business or professional services firm
- Experience supporting firm growth and scaling processes
- Proven ability to manage both financial and administrative functions
