Operation theater technician

1. Key ResponsibilitiesA. Pre-Operative Responsibilities

• Prepare OT before each surgery (cleaning, arranging instruments & equipment).
• Check functioning of OT machines: suction, cautery, light, anesthesia machine, monitors.
• Arrange sterile instruments, trays, linen, grafts, and consumables.
• Assist in patient shifting and positioning on OT table.
• Maintain sterility and aseptic precautions at all times.

B. Intra-Operative Responsibilities

• Assist surgeon and scrub nurse during surgery.
• Handle instruments and consumables as instructed by the surgeon.
• Operate OT equipment such as cautery, suction, camera, laparoscopy units, etc.
• Ensure timely availability of required instruments and disposables.
• Monitor sterile field and maintain infection control protocols.

C. Post-Operative Responsibilities

• Help transfer patient safely to recovery room.
• Clean, disinfect, and sterilize instruments after surgery.
• Dispose of biomedical waste as per BMW guidelines.
• Restock OT, check deficiencies, and prepare for the next surgery.

D. Equipment & Inventory Management

• Maintain OT equipment, report malfunctions immediately.
• Monitor stock of surgical items, consumables, and instruments.
• Assist in periodic maintenance and calibration of OT equipment.
• Maintain sterilization and autoclave records.

E. Documentation & Reporting

• Update OT register, case details, implant usage, and consumable usage.
• Assist in maintaining instrument tracking and count sheets.
• Report any incidents, breakages, or shortages to OT In-charge.

2. Skills & Competencies

• Strong understanding of OT procedures and sterilization
• Ability to work under pressure and in emergency situations
• Good communication & teamwork skills
• Technical knowledge of OT machinery
• Attention to detail & infection control awareness

3. Qualifications

• Diploma in OT Technology / B.Sc OT / Healthcare-related diploma
• Experience: 0–5 years (as per hospital requirement)

4. Working Conditions

• Rotational shifts depending on surgery schedule
• Emergency on-call duties
• Long standing hours in OT required
• Strict adherence to OT discipline and aseptic protocols

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: ₹10,000.00 - ₹15,000.00 per month
