Part-Time Remote Ophthalmic Medical Biller (Ophthalmology Experience Required)

A physician-owned startup ophthalmology practice is seeking an experienced Ophthalmic Medical Biller for part-time hourly, remote work.

This position requires direct ophthalmology billing experience. Candidates must be highly detail-oriented, reliable, and comfortable working independently in a startup medical practice environment.

The practice is led by a board-certified comprehensive ophthalmologist with 18 years of post-training experience, specializing in cataract surgery and office-based laser procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Ophthalmology medical billing and claims submission
  • CPT and ICD-10 coding accuracy (including cataract surgery and office procedures)
  • Insurance follow-ups, payment posting, and denial resolution
  • Maintaining compliance with payer and documentation requirements
  • Working directly with the physician owner to ensure clean claims and efficient revenue cycle management

Requirements

  • Prior ophthalmology billing experience is required
  • Familiarity with ophthalmic CPT codes (e.g., cataract surgery, laser procedures, office visits)
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to work independently in a remote setting
  • High ethical standards and professionalism

Pay: $23.22 - $27.97 per hour

Expected hours: No less than 10.0 per week

  • A surgeon performs cataract surgery on the right eye but transfers postoperative care to an optometrist. The patient subsequently needs a follow-up visit for a complication. How do you bill for the post-op care, and who is responsible for the complication visit? What is this arrangement called?
