Patient Care Tech Medical ICU - Full Time

Position Summary

Attends nursing station and performs clerical and reception duties, requisitions supplies, equipment, and other services as directed.

Position Accountabilities

Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, safety, environmental and infection control standards.

Performs clerical duties related to procedures such as admission, discharge, transfer, and death. . Responds promptly to patient inquiries and requests. Conducts job duties in accordance with departmental standards

Performs basic nursing procedures.

Obtains and documents patient vital signs, including temperature, blood pressure, weight, and respiration and pulse.

Provides appropriate, direct patient care and personal care assistance to patients, including, but not limited to bathing, dressing, nutritional assistance, bed pains and transportation.

Notifies nurses immediately of any alarms on the monitor.

Keeps patient records current. Organizes work to complete job tasks in a timely manner.

Completes logs and records promptly, recording all information that could be pertinent to others.

Verifies physicians’ discharge and request for medical records orders.

Prepares charts, photocopies information, files information, and answers telephone, takes messages, and directs calls. Communicates clearly and tactfully with patients, their families, and co-workers. Ensures that records and information are swiftly retrieved.

Assists patients with activities of daily living, encouraging independent behavior when appropriate.

Prepares patients for scheduled procedures to assist in patient assessment.

Monitors medical condition of patients and reports changes to appropriate personnel.

Demonstrates sensitivity to patient’s comfort and privacy and expresses interest in their progress.

Maintains patient records and charts to ensure an accurate record of the patient’s medical treatment.

Maintains confidentiality of patient and unit care data.

Cooperates with other personnel to achieve department objectives and maintain good employee relations, interdepartmental objectives, and infection control policies

Maintains a safe, comfortable and therapeutic environment for patients/families in accordance with hospital standards.

Cleans and prepares rooms between procedures and after terminal cleaning. Monitors and restocks supplies.

Requisitions supplies and equipment, maintenance and repair services, and prepares related forms. Keeps stock and equipment inventories. Reviews supplies inventory to maintain optimal stock without excessive inventory.

Prioritizes work and provides prompt and efficient services. Organizes work to complete job tasks in a timely manner.

Maintains confidentiality of patient and unit care data.

Maintains department records, reports, and files as required. Serves as a resource to co-workers.

Consults with and advises unit supervisors/charge nurses on unit management.

Prepares and maintains records of patient charges.

Orients, instructs, and trains assigned personnel. Communicates technical information in a manner appropriate for intended audience. Serves as a resource for co-workers.

Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings, and workshops.

Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.

Minimum Education- High School or equivalent

Minimum Experience- On the job or equivalent in admitting procedures

Required Certification/Registration- BLS certification

Preferred Certification/Registration- EMT Basic or CNA
