About the Role:

The Patient Financial Services Representative plays a critical role in ensuring a smooth financial experience for patients within healthcare facilities across the United States. This position is responsible for managing patient accounts, assisting with billing inquiries, and facilitating payment processes to support the financial health of the organization. The representative acts as a liaison between patients and the healthcare provider, clarifying insurance coverage, explaining charges, and resolving discrepancies. By providing clear and compassionate communication, this role helps reduce patient stress related to medical expenses and promotes timely payments. Ultimately, the Patient Financial Services Representative contributes to maintaining accurate financial records and enhancing patient satisfaction through effective financial service delivery.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree or higher preferred.
  • Experience in a healthcare or financial services environment, particularly in patient billing or customer service.
  • Strong knowledge of medical billing processes, insurance terminology, and healthcare regulations.
  • Proficiency with electronic health record (EHR) systems and billing software.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with patients and healthcare staff.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certification in medical billing or coding (e.g., Certified Professional Biller or Certified Coding Specialist).
  • Experience working with multiple insurance providers and familiarity with Medicare and Medicaid billing.
  • Bilingual abilities to assist a diverse patient population.
  • Advanced proficiency in data entry and financial reporting tools.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive information with confidentiality and professionalism.

Responsibilities:

  • Respond promptly and professionally to patient inquiries regarding billing statements, insurance coverage, and payment options.
  • Verify patient insurance information and eligibility to ensure accurate billing and minimize claim denials.
  • Assist patients in setting up payment plans and provide guidance on financial assistance programs when applicable.
  • Collaborate with internal departments such as billing, coding, and insurance to resolve account discrepancies and expedite claim processing.
  • Maintain detailed and accurate records of patient interactions, payments, and account adjustments in compliance with healthcare regulations.
