SUMMARY
Registers, verifies patient information, instructs, directs and schedules patients and visitors. Demonstrates positive customer service and quality commitment skills through timely and courteous assistance of all phone calls and walk-in visitors to the clinic. Serves as liaison between patient and medical support staff.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Pre-registers patients by collecting current patient demographics and insurance information.
  • Schedules patient appointments following site or providers scheduling protocol. Verifies and updates patient demographics and insurance information. Notifies patients of pertinent visit information i.e.; co-pay reminders, clinic directions and appropriate check-in times.
  • Greets and checks-in patients. Verifies and inputs demographic data; obtains and scans a copy of new insurance card; and obtains signatures for billing purposes. Collects and issues receipt for co-pay.
  • Verifies, scans and documents insurance eligibility using online computer access.
  • Answers switchboard/department phone, transfers calls to appropriate department, takes accurate messages and provides information concerning the clinics and its services. Maintains work area and patient areas in neat and orderly manner.
  • Performs related work as required, which includes but is not restricted to various clerical tasks such as sorting and mailing other correspondence. May create and maintain provider schedules.
  • Screens telephone calls or walk-in patients as per site guidelines for purpose of prioritizing the scheduling of appointments.
  • Schedules patients per multiple provider requests.
  • Supports the policies and procedures of the health system and the standards of the Joint Commission as required for full accreditation.


EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Ability to handle and manage a cash drawer. Requires strong customer service and phone skills, as well as excellent interpersonal skills with exceptional communication and listening skills giving the ability to quickly connect with customers.
Skills in using a keyboard, mouse, PC, scanner and printer. Knowledge of medical terminology, spelling and punctuation to type patient information.
Preferred: High school diploma or the equivalent. Clerical experience and private insurance payer knowledge strongly desired.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and ability to adjust focus.

Salary:$18.44 - $26.85 per hour, based on experience and qualifications.
