Payroll Coordinator II

Welcome!

We are seeking a highly detail-oriented Payroll Coordinator II to support payroll operations following a recent implementation of Workday. This role is critical in ensuring accurate, timely payroll processing while helping stabilize and optimize processes transitioning from UKG Pro.

This individual will serve as a key contributor in a fast-paced, evolving environment, partnering closely with Payroll, Accounting, HR, and Field Operations teams. The ideal candidate brings strong payroll processing experience, hands-on Workday knowledge, and the ability to troubleshoot issues while communicating effectively with a blue-collar, field-based workforce.

Key Responsibilities

Payroll Processing & Execution

  • Process multi-state, high-volume payroll in Workday with a high degree of accuracy
  • Validate payroll inputs including hours worked, overtime, commissions, and deductions
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations
  • Support off-cycle payrolls, adjustments, and corrections as needed

Audit & Quality Control

  • Perform detailed payroll audits including gross-to-net validation
  • Reconcile earnings, deductions, and taxes to ensure accuracy
  • Identify discrepancies and proactively resolve issues prior to payroll finalization
  • Maintain documentation and audit trails for all payroll activities

Workday Troubleshooting & Support

  • Troubleshoot payroll calculation issues within Workday (earnings, deductions, tax setup, retro)
  • Partner with HRIS and Payroll leadership to resolve system and configuration issues
  • Assist in identifying root causes of payroll discrepancies and recommend solutions

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner with Accounting on payroll reconciliations, journal entries, and funding
  • Work closely with HR and Benefits teams to validate employee data and changes
  • Communicate directly with field managers and employees to resolve payroll inquiries
  • Provide clear, practical explanations of payroll outcomes to a field-based workforce

Employee & Field Support

  • Serve as a point of contact for payroll-related questions from employees and managers
  • Educate employees on Workday payslips, time entry, and payroll processes
  • Handle sensitive payroll issues with professionalism and confidentiality

Process Improvement & Optimization

  • Identify opportunities to improve payroll processes, controls, and efficiency
  • Recommend and help implement best practices within Workday payroll operations
  • Support post-go-live stabilization and continuous improvement initiatives

Qualifications

Required

  • 2+ years of payroll processing experience (high-volume, multi-state preferred)
  • Hands-on experience processing payroll in Workday Payroll
  • Strong understanding of payroll fundamentals (taxes, deductions, garnishments, overtime)
  • Proven experience performing detailed payroll audits and reconciliations
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage a field/blue-collar workforce
  • High attention to detail and ability to meet strict deadlines

Preferred

  • Experience transitioning from UKG Pro to Workday
  • Experience in construction, HVAC, or field service industries
  • Familiarity with payroll integrations (e.g., tax filing, garnishments)
  • Experience working in a post-go-live or system stabilization environment

Minimum Experience: 2+ years
Years Minimum Education: High School Diploma/GED
