Payroll Specialist

Job Title: Payroll Specialist

Location: Southfield, MI (On-site)

What You’ll Do

Payroll Processing & Administration

  • Process bi-weekly payroll for multi-site employees, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  • Review and validate timesheets, PTO, bonuses, and adjustments prior to payroll submission.
  • Ensure proper calculation of wages, overtime, and deductions in compliance with federal and state laws.

Compliance & Reporting

  • Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations.
  • Manage payroll tax filings, wage garnishments, and deductions.
  • Prepare and distribute W-2s and other required payroll reports.
  • Assist with audits and ensure proper documentation is maintained.

Employee Support

  • Serve as a point of contact for payroll-related questions and issues.
  • Resolve discrepancies and provide timely support to employees and managers.
  • Educate employees on payroll policies, deductions, and timekeeping processes.

Systems & Process Improvement

  • Maintain and update employee payroll data in HRIS/payroll systems.
  • Partner with HR and Finance to ensure data accuracy and alignment.
  • Identify opportunities to improve payroll processes and efficiency.

Timekeeping & Coordination

  • Monitor timekeeping systems for accuracy and compliance.
  • Work closely with managers to ensure timely submission and approval of hours.
  • Track and manage PTO accruals and usage.

What You Bring

Required Qualifications

  • 2–4 years of experience in payroll processing, preferably in a multi-site environment.
  • Strong knowledge of payroll laws, tax regulations, and compliance requirements.
  • Experience with payroll systems/HRIS (e.g., ADP, Paychex, UKG, or similar).
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in healthcare or high-volume workforce environments.
  • Familiarity with multi-state payroll processing.
  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, HR, or related field.
  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) or similar certification is a plus.
