Position Summary:

The Payroll Specialist is responsible for the accurate and timely processing of payroll for 10 companies and 2,000 employees, while providing direct support to the Payroll Manager within the Payroll/Human Resources department, as well as collaborating closely with the Finance team. This is an in-person position based in our Headquarters in Enfield, CT.

Your Role:

  • Process payroll actions, audit timecards, and ensure all supporting documentation is promptly scanned into personnel files.
  • Perform accurate, timely, and efficient payroll processing, including payroll reports and check distribution for multiple companies.
  • Prepare and process weekly payroll reports, including hours worked, salaries, commissions, and timesheets.
  • Manage payroll-related deductions, including benefits, garnishments, and taxes.
  • Calculate and reconcile direct deposits, 401(k) contributions, and payroll adjustments.
  • Assist with retroactive pay calculations and other payroll adjustments.
  • Assist with audits and provide required payroll documentation.
  • Support payroll reconciliation before transmission and validate finalized payroll reports.
  • Conduct periodic internal audits to ensure data accuracy and identify potential system or process issues; assist with year-end processing (W-2s) and OSHA hour reporting requirements.
  • Respond to employee inquiries regarding pay, deductions, and payroll policies.
  • Set up and manage benefit deductions during open enrollment.
  • Share joint responsibility with the Finance team for payroll-related financial processes, including coordination, accuracy, and compliance with company standards and regulations.
  • Maintain consistent, reliable attendance in accordance with company policies and applicable federal, state, and local regulations, including Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA).
  • Adapt to evolving responsibilities and support additional duties as business needs change.

Your Skills:

  • Working knowledge of payroll processes and basic accounting principles.
  • Strong attention to detail with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Proficiency in basic mathematical calculations, including percentages, sums, and averages.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build effective working relationships. Effective time management skills with the ability to prioritize and manage stress in a fast-paced environment.

Requirements:

  • Payroll experience with working knowledge of payroll taxes and liabilities.
  • Multi-state payroll experience preferred.
  • Minimum of 1-year of recent accounting experience in an office environment.
  • Experience with accounting software and strong Excel skills.

  • The schedule is Monday-Friday for 40 hours.
