Job Description
Chesapeake’s CIBH is seeking someone to join our Payroll/HR Team! If you have experience processing Semi monthly payroll with Kronos/UKG/Workforce Dimensions and want to be an integral part of a dynamic and supportive team; keep reading! The Payroll/Human Resources Technician II is responsible for preparing and processing semi-monthly payroll for 250+ employees in compliance with applicable regulations and organizational policies. This position ensures accuracy of payroll records, responds to employee inquiries, and supports Human Resources functions related to timekeeping, recruitment, onboarding, benefits, and personnel transactions.

Typical tasks include:
  • Review of employee time cards in the KRONOS system for accuracy and compliance with city policy. This includes completing historical edits and corrections on time cards as required. Complete supervisor and schedule changes as needed. Assist CIBH staff with inquiries regarding the KRONOS system.
  • Complete CIBH semimonthly payroll by running payroll reports, verification of time card data, submitting exceptions and corrections to the Finance Department and checking distribution.
  • Communicating with finance and HR to accurately post FMLA, disability and worker’s compensation to employee time cards in compliance with HR related policies and procedures
  • Work as a team to post advertisements, prepare interview packages, and guide supervisors through the hiring process.
  • Initiate the onboarding process for new hires including conducting background screenings, verifying credentials and completing new hire documents.
  • Creates personnel files in accordance with State licensure requirements.
  • Process Personnel Actions in MUNIS for various HR related changes.
  • Tracks agency positions and vacancies
  • Facilitate NEO (New Employee Orientation) with the HR team to welcome new hires to the agency
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications
VOCATIONAL/EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT:
Requires any combination of education and experience equivalent to an associate’s degree in accounting or a closely related field.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:
In addition to satisfying the vocational/educational standard, this class requires a minimum of two years of related, full-time equivalent experience.

SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES:
Depending on operational needs, may require a valid driver’s license and a driving record in compliance with City driving standards.

Preferred Qualifications
Previous experience processing City of Chesapeake Semi Monthly payroll is strongly preferred.
Strong organizational and communication skills needed for this position.
