Physician Assistant

The APC in the Division of General Surgery (Acute Care Surgery and Trauma Service) provides care to patients in the University Hospital and Clinics. The provider will care for trauma patients and others in need of acute surgical evaluation (such as those with incarcerated hernia’s, appendicitis, cholecystitis etc.). The general responsibilities include evaluating patients in the ER, In-patient care, Pre-op and follow-up clinic, and other related responsibilities.
The Utah Trauma and Emergency Surgery service currently consists of 9 Attendings and 8 APCs.

Responsibilities
General Responsibilities may include:
Outpatient clinic 1-2 days /week.
Inpatient rounding, admitting, discharges, consults etc.
Assist in the operating room as needed. Currently 1-3 days/ month
Participate in team meetings, education conferences, special projects as required (2-6 hr/month).

Work Environment and Level of Frequency that may be required:
Nearly Continuously: Office environment.
Often: Infectious disease, oils (there is air or skin exposure to oils or other cutting fluids), hazards (includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, or exposure to chemicals).

Nearly Continuously: Hearing, listening, talking.
Often: Repetitive hand motion (such as typing), walking, standing, sitting.
Seldom: Bending, reaching overhead.

Minimum Qualifications
Required:
  • Current licensure to practice as a Physician Assistant from the State of Utah.
  • Current RQI Healthcare Provider eCredential through the University of Utah Health RQI system. The eCredential is to be obtained within 30 days of hire.


Preferred:
  • Certification in ACLS/BLS/NRP/ATLS may be required by your department or by privileging criteria.
