To carry out maintenance and repair of mechanical plant equipment within the workshop and on-site as required. The mobile plant fitter will be supported by the Plant manager and Workshop Foreman, ensuring all work is carried out safely, efficiently, and to a high standard, while mentoring junior team members and promoting best practices.

Key Tasks & Responsibilities -

Ensure compliance with all relevant UK Health & Safety legislation, company policies, and environmental standards.

Ability to interpret OEM manuals, method statements, and risk assessments , ensuring safe systems of work are followed.

Diagnose and repair complex faults in mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and engine systems.

Lead the mobilisation of specialist plant equipment including ventilation systems, hyperbaric systems and tunnelling equipment.

Assist other parts of the group when required with crane rigging / repairs and maintenance and repair of our excavator fleet.

Support the development of apprentices and junior fitters through mentoring and on-the-job training.

Carry out inspections and preventative maintenance

Perform basic welding and flame cutting as required.

Maintain a clean, safe, and organised workshop environment.

Accurately complete and submit records.

Assist the Plant manager and foreman with planning, stock control, and continuous improvement.

Maintain company vehicle in accordance with company policy handbook.

Ensure the Company's LIFE values are implemented in all of your decision making.

Be prepared to travel within UK at short notice.
Essential Skills
-
Time-served Plant Fitter or equivalent mechanical engineering qualification (e.g. NVQ Level 3 or City & Guilds).

Proven experience in plant maintenance and repair.

Strong knowledge of hydraulic, mechanical, and basic electrical systems.

Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and schematics.

Good understanding of UK H&S regulations and safe working practices.

Excellent fault-finding and problem-solving skills.

Strong communication and leadership abilities.
Desirable:

Knowledge of the tunnelling industry and associated plant

Basic welding and cutting skills.

LOLER/PUWER awareness.

Forklift or plant operation tickets (e.g. CPCS, NPORS).
