Position Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented Plumbing Estimator to prepare accurate, competitive cost estimates for plumbing and mechanical systems on commercial and residential construction projects. The role focuses on performing takeoffs, developing labor and material budgets, using industry estimating tools (including Trimble), and collaborating with project teams, subcontractors, and suppliers to produce timely bid packages and support successful project delivery.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare complete, timely estimates and proposals for plumbing and related mechanical scopes using plans, specifications, and historical data.
  • Perform detailed quantity takeoffs by hand and with digital tools; maintain and update estimating databases.
  • Use Trimble estimating software (and comparable tools) to build and refine cost models and bid assemblies.
  • Solicit, review, and analyze subcontractor and vendor quotes; incorporate pricing into overall estimates.
  • Coordinate with project managers, engineers, foremen, and procurement to clarify scope, identify risk, and recommend value-engineering solutions.
  • Conduct site visits and pre-bid reviews to validate quantities, site conditions, and constructability.
  • Prepare bid forms, cost breakdowns, assumptions, and exclusions; clearly document estimate basis for internal review and client submission.
  • Maintain accurate records of estimates, pricing submittals, and historical cost data for future estimating and reporting.
  • Assist in post-bid activities including negotiations, scope reconciliation, and transitioning awarded work to the project team.
Qualifications
  • Associate degree or higher in Construction Management, Mechanical Engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience in plumbing estimating.
  • 3+ years of hands-on plumbing estimating experience in commercial and/or multifamily construction; mechanical systems experience strongly preferred.
  • Proficiency with Trimble estimating software (or equivalent digital estimating platforms) and electronic takeoff tools.
  • Strong knowledge of plumbing systems, fixtures, piping materials, fittings, valves, and installation methods.
  • Demonstrated ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and RFI documents.
  • Excellent spreadsheet skills (Excel) and familiarity with cost databases and estimating templates.
  • Strong communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills; ability to collaborate across teams and with subcontractors and suppliers.
  • High attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple bids and deadlines under pressure.
  • Valid drivers license and availability for occasional site visits and client meetings.
