Georgetown Central School, a small school serving a coastal community, is seeking a caring and enthusiastic
PreK/Kindergarten lead teacher
. This role is a unique opportunity within our combined PreK/Kindergarten classroom, focusing on developing students’ academic, social, and emotional growth.
Our school provides a balance of traditional classroom instruction and
outdoor experiential-based learning
. Our unique coastal location allows us to fully integrate environmental stewardship and hands-on exploration directly into the interdisciplinary, authentic curriculum. The lead teacher works in a collaborative, student-centered environment, supported by a full-time educational technician.
The ideal candidate is a self-directed educator who embraces a high level of professional accountability, demonstrating the necessary resourcefulness and dedication required to lead and master all aspects of the classroom environment.
Key Responsibilities

Instructional Design & Delivery:
-
Provide high-quality instruction within a combined PreK/Kindergarten setting.

Design and deliver a multi-sensory curriculum that effectively addresses the full spectrum of PreK/Kindergarten developmental needs.

Implement research-based instructional practices for literacy and mathematics.

Integrate Maine’s Early Learning and Development Standards with hands-on, outdoor experiential learning.

Classroom Environment & Management:
-
Create a nurturing, playful environment rooted in a deep understanding of early childhood development.

Utilize intentional environmental design to actively foster student independence, curiosity, and emotional regulation.

Ensure all activities are developmentally appropriate and fully inclusive of diverse learning needs.

Collaboration & Communication:
-
Maintain clear, consistent communication with students, families, and colleagues.

Actively contribute to a positive school culture characterized by shared leadership, compassion, appreciation, and innovation.
Required Qualifications
-
Valid Maine Teaching Certification: Applicants must possess one or more of the following certifications:
-
081 (Early Elementary)
-
029 (Early Childhood Teacher)
-
020 (General Elementary)
Preferred Qualifications
-
A passion and enthusiasm for teaching our youngest learners.

Experience with a hands-on approach to early childhood learning and outdoor education.

Strong communication and collaboration skills.
Position Status:
This position begins with the
2026-2027
school year. The first round of interviews will be scheduled for the week of May 11, 2026. Applications will be accepted until a suitable candidate is found.
