Job Description: LEAD TEACHER/CAREGIVER
Program: Preschool
Reports to: PCCC Director
Essential duties & Responsibilities
- Develop and provide a Christian-based, developmentally appropriate curriculum and activities that encourage learning and the spiritual, social and emotional growth of young children.
- Teach and encourage young children with patience and creativity, promoting their self-esteem and self-discipline.
- Always maintain classroom staffing ratio requirements.
- Maintain daily and open communications with parents encouraging family engagement in the program.
- Assure the safety and well-being of all children in your care. This includes reporting damaged or malfunctioning equipment or supplies to the Center’s Director and removing broken toys from the classroom.
- Plan, coordinate and supervise appropriate field trips with the approval of the Center’s Director.
- Work within and promote a cooperative and collaborative team approach with all staff members, including the Center’s director, volunteers, and parents.
- Collaborate with the Infant & Toddler Lead Caregiver/Teacher on special and/or activities days.
- Collaborate and share resources and toys with the Infant & Toddler room staff.
- Knowledge of using and implementing a curriculum within developmentally appropriate diameters for the whole class and children as individuals.
- Prepare and provide monthly curriculum and activities lesson plan to the Center’s Director and parents.
- Collaborate, discuss, and share ideas, plans, and suggestions with both the Center’s Director and the Infant & Toddler Lead Caregiver/Teacher so that both programs complement each other to create a cohesive Center.
- Perform proper assessments for each child enrolled in the Preschool program.
- Work with parents and/or guardians to ensure that each child is appropriately prepared for Kindergarten.
- Provide written or typed documentation promptly to the Center’s Director of a child’s extreme or unusual behavior issues.
- Train, support and supervise assistants, aides and volunteers in the classroom.
- Promptly notify the Center Director of an ill or injured child.
- Promptly report any suspected evidence of child abuse or neglect to the Central Registry and the Center’s Director.
- Maintain licensing requirements set forth by the State of Michigan Licensing Regulatory Affairs for Child Care Centers.
- Accurately maintain and complete any required documentation, time sheets, reports, and/or record keeping, and submit to the Center’s Director within deadlines.
- Participate in staff meetings, training and professional development opportunities approved by the Center’s Director.
- Maintain all aspects of confidentiality as it pertains to student, families, coworkers, and other protected information.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities, not in conflict with PCCC Board policies or Federal or State law, as assigned by the Center’s Director.
Education, Experience and/or Other Qualifications:
- Must meet the education, coursework and Hours of Experience as set forth in. R 400.8122 of the State of Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs.
- Must successfully complete annual training in CPR, First Aid and Blood Borne Pathogens.
- Must successfully complete any other required training or certifications.
- Must complete and successfully pass required background checks.
- Must be able to interact with children at their own physical level by bending, squatting, kneeling and/0r sitting on the floor or on small chairs.
