Position Overview:
The Preschool Lead Teacher at The Gingerbread House (GBH) is responsible for creating a safe, nurturing, and engaging learning environment for children ages 3–5. This role requires strong leadership, organization, and a passion for early childhood education. The Lead Teacher will implement curriculum, manage the classroom, and ensure that children are meeting developmental milestones.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement weekly lesson plans aligned with curriculum and developmental goals
  • Create a structured, engaging, and age-appropriate classroom environment
  • Maintain classroom management and guide positive behavior
  • Ensure daily routines are followed, including circle time, centers, meals, and nap time
  • Supervise and support assistant teachers in the classroom
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitized classroom at all times
  • Complete monthly assessments and maintain student portfolios
  • Communicate effectively with parents regarding student progress and daily activities
  • Prepare materials and activities in advance of each week
  • Ensure compliance with all DCFS licensing standards and center policies

Qualifications:

  • Valid Child Development Associate (CDA) Credential or currently certified through DCFS with coursework in progress toward CDA completion
  • Previous experience in a preschool or childcare setting (preferred)
  • Strong classroom management and leadership skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • CPR/First Aid Certification (or willingness to obtain)

  • Be actively engaged with children throughout the day
  • Maintain professionalism with staff, children, and families
  • Follow GBH policies and procedures consistently
  • Work collaboratively with team members and administration

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand, bend, and move throughout the day
  • Comfortable working both indoors and outdoors

Pay: $18.00 - $19.25 per hour
