Preschool Teacher I/II (Part-Time)

Assist Preschool Director with program development and implementation of Golden Parks and Recreation Department's state licensed Preschool Program. Under general direction of the Preschool Director, teachers are responsible for providing a safe, nurturing, and educational environment for children 3 to 5 years old. Responsible for daily compliance with State Standards and meeting Jefferson County benchmarks; responsible for preparing developmentally appropriate practices and understanding best practices for an early childhood setting. Teachers must meet all requirements as determined by State Licensing Agency.

Pay is based on experience and qualifications/credentials.

Preschool Teacher I pay range is $22.80-$26.79
Preschool Teacher II pay range is $24.56-$29.57

JOB SUMMARY

  • Plan and perform daily routines and activities appropriate for preschool education to ensure compliance with all performance and licensing standards.
  • Implement lesson plans according to developmentally appropriate practices, themes, and children’s interests and skill level that are conducive to learning.
  • Understand importance of assessments and curriculum planning. Utilize assessments appropriately to scaffold and identify strengths, needs, and goals for each child.
  • Document observations of child progress and classroom progress for the purpose of planning activities.
  • Maintain program records and documents needed for licensing compliance.
  • Communicate and interact with children, parents and others in a positive manner. Communicate with children at their physical level.
  • Encourage parent participation in the classroom and with home activities.
  • Follow procedures for reporting suspected child abuse. Immediately reports all incidents, injuries, and/or unsafe conditions to Preschool Director.
  • Maintains cleanliness of facility and organization of materials and equipment in accordance with Colorado Human Services guidelines and Golden Parks and Recreation Department policies.
  • Communicates with parents to provide information about preschool activities and their children's development.
  • Communicates with Preschool Director in order to provide quality programs.
  • Attends required trainings and meetings.
  • Assists in interviewing teaching staff as needed.
  • Facilitates parent committee meetings as needed.
  • Completes other tasks and duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Must be at least 18 years of age by date of hire. Applicant must meet the educational and experience requirements as outlined by the Colorado Department of Human Services Rules Regulating Childcare Centers. 7.702.44.A.1 AN EARLY CHILDHOOD TEACHER (FORMERLY GROUP LEADER), Assigned responsibility for a single group of children and working under the supervision of a director, must meet at least one of the following qualifications found in the Early Childhood Teacher Chart (Attachment A). Must provide an employment health form signed by a physician.
Preschool Teacher I
  • Two years’ experience in a licensed day care/preschool preferred. Minimum experience is the care and supervision of four (4) or more children less than six (6) years of age, who are not related to the applicant. Experience may include being a licensee of a Colorado family child care home, or a teacher’s aide or teacher in a child care center, preschool, or elementary school.
  • Must be willing to seek higher education in Early Childhood Courses within six months of employment.
Preschool Teacher II
  • Bachelor’s or Associate’s Degree in ECE, Education, Recreation, Health & Wellness or related field required.
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience, 4 years’ preferred, in a licensed day care/preschool preferred. Minimum experience is the care and supervision of four (4) or more children less than six (6) years of age, who are not related to the applicant. Experience may include being a licensee of a Colorado family child care home, or a teacher’s aide or teacher in a child care center, preschool, or elementary school.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Current CPR and First Aid certification required within one month of hire.
Upon hire, must successfully pass a TRAILS Background check, and a CBI & FBI fingerprint criminal background check.
Universal Precaution & Medication Administration certification within one month of hire.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and comprehend curriculum, policies and procedures, standards, benchmarks, behavior plans, and implementation strategies. Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

Ability to receive instructions and constructive feedback. Ability to communicate as a team.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to apply basic addition, subtraction, and multiplication skills for calculating data when necessary. Ability to teach children appropriate basic mathematical skills and provide math in the classroom environment.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

Ability to make sound decisions on a day-to-day basis regarding appropriate communication with families/caregivers, classroom management, supervision of classroom volunteers, and professional development that will enhance your abilities and skills. Ability to understand the importance of confidentiality.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Demonstrates maturity of judgment and the skill to exercise appropriate supervision and direction to preschool age children in an unstructured setting.

Ability to facilitate resolution of conflicts. Ability to make sound decisions and use good judgment under stressful conditions. Makes independent decisions and has the ability to complete projects with minimal supervision. Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with other employees, supervisors, and community organizations, the public, and participants.

MATERIALS & EQUIPMENT DIRECTLY USED

Elementary school supplies (paper, crayons, paints, glue, and scissors), copy machine, fax, and tape player. Telephone, copy machine, laminate machine, personal computer, printer, fax machine, sports equipment, arts and crafts supplies, cleaning supplies, washer/dryer, musical instruments, some cooking tools.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus.

Work environment is primarily in an indoor setting with outdoor playtime and outings as appropriate. The noise level is moderate to loud.
