Prevention Technician- Wildfire Division

Bastrop County ESD #2 is accepting applications for a Prevention Technician to join the departments Wildfire Division. The position will be responsible for defensible space inspections, assist with fuels mitigation, wildfire response and developing and implementing a fire prevention plan for the district. All required personal protective equipment, and training will be provided by the department. Start date is negotiable.

• With the use of chainsaws and woodchippers install shaded fuel breaks to reduce, modify, and manage fuels within a designated area to lessen wildfire potential within the district.
• Work with private landowners to create defensible space around homes.
• Conduct Wildfire Risk Assessments
• Participate in community outreach and chipping events
• Participate in HOA/POA meetings
• Wildfire suppression and mop-up
• Work as a team to manage project timelines
• Lead rewrite of Community Wildfire Protection Plan
• Create Fire District Fire Prevention Plan
• Participate in physical training required to meet and maintain job performance expectations.
• Upkeep of all issued PPE, daily equipment maintenance and checks

Minimum Qualifications:

• Must be 18 years of age or older
• Must be a US citizen
• Must have a valid class C driver's license
• Must have a High School Diploma or GED
• Must pass a drug test following job offer
• Must pass a physical exam following job offer
• Must have 5-years of Wildland Fire experience
• Must have experience with public speaking
• Complete Arduous Work Capacity Test (3 mile walk with 45 pounds in 45 minutes or less

Preferred Qualifications:

• Wildland and/or fuels Mitigation Experience
• Qualified NWCG FFT1/ICT5
• Qualified NWCG ENGB
• Qualified NWCG FAL3 or higher
• Degree in Natural Resources or Emergency Management
• Texas Commision on FIre Protection (TCFP) Basic Structural fire certification
• Certified Emergency Medical Technician (EMT-B)
