Prior Authorization Specialist/Administrative Assistant

We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Prior Authorization Specialist/Administrative Assistant to join our healthcare team. In this vital role, you will be responsible for managing prior authorization requests, ensuring timely approval for patient treatments and procedures, and providing essential administrative support within a busy medical office environment. Your proactive approach and excellent organizational skills will help streamline operations, improve patient care coordination, and ensure compliance with healthcare regulations. Duties

  • Prepare and submit prior authorization requests to insurance companies for medical procedures, imaging, medications, and specialty services, ensuring all necessary documentation and medical records are complete and accurate
  • Follow up with insurance providers to track approval status and resolve any issues promptly
  • Maintain detailed records of authorization requests, approvals, denials, and related correspondence in accordance with HIPAA regulations
  • Collaborate with medical staff to ensure all documentation aligns with CPT coding (Current Procedural Terminology), ICD-9/ICD-10 (International Classification of Diseases), and other relevant medical coding standards
  • Support office operations by managing phone calls, emails, and administrative tasks efficiently while maintaining confidentiality and professionalism

Skills

  • Strong knowledge of managed care processes and insurance verification procedures
  • Experience working in a medical office environment with familiarity in medical terminology and records management
  • Proficiency in medical coding including CPT, ICD-9, ICD-10, and ICD coding systems
  • Understanding of HIPAA compliance standards to protect patient privacy and confidentiality
  • Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously and meet deadlines
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills for liaising with insurance companies, healthcare providers, and patients
  • Office experience that demonstrates attention to detail and problem-solving capabilities
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines
  • Experience with Electronic Health Records (EHR) systems
